Summary:
Our client provides precision engineering solutions to the medical device industry, producing complex components and tooling to exacting standards. The CNC Machinist will set up and operate CNC machines to produce high-precision components and tooling for medical device applications. The role combines CNC machining with hands-on finishing skills such as jig grinding, high-precision surface grinding, and support for laser welding activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, program (where applicable), and operate CNC milling and/or turning machines to produce precision components and tooling to specification.
  • Perform jig grinding and high-precision surface grinding to achieve critical tolerances and surface finishes.
  • Support laser welding activities for component and tool repair/modification (operating or working closely with a Laser Welding Technician).
  • Select appropriate tools, feeds and speeds, and optimise machining parameters for quality and efficiency.
  • Inspect components using precision measuring equipment and record results in line with quality procedures.
  • Work closely with Toolmakers and Engineers on new product introduction, tooling development and problem-solving.
  • Complete set-up sheets, production records and quality documentation in accordance with GMP and medical device requirements.
  • Maintain machines, tooling and work area to a high standard of cleanliness and

safety.

Requirements:

  • Time-served CNC Machinist, Precision Engineer or relevant trade qualification.
  • Strong experience setting and operating CNC milling and/or turning machines in

a precision environment.

  • Proven experience with Precision engineering and tight-tolerance machining

Jig grinding and/or high-precision surface grinding

  • Ability to read CNC programs and engineering drawings and work with minimal supervision.
  • Confident in the use of precision measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers, gauges).
  • Experience working to formal quality systems (ideally ISO 13485, or ISO 9001 / aerospace standards).
  • Experience in the medical device or similarly regulated sector.
  • Experience editing CNC programs at the machine (Fanuc/Heidenhain/Siemens
  • or relevant controls).
  • Knowledge or hands-on experience with laser welding processes.
  • Familiarity with CAM software and/or CMM inspection.
