Summary:
Our client is a precision engineering company supplying critical components and
solutions to the medical device sector. The Toolmaker will be responsible for the manufacture, repair and maintenance of high-precision tools, jigs, fixtures and components used in medical device production. The role involves hands-on jig grinding, high-precision surface grinding, laser welding and conventional toolroom machining in a clean, regulated environment.

Responsibilities:
• Manufacture, fit and assemble precision tools, jigs and fixtures to tight
tolerances, following engineering drawings and specifications.
• Perform jig grinding and high precision surface grinding to achieve required
dimensional and surface finish standards.
• Carry out laser welding for repair and modification of tools, inserts and
precision components.
• Use conventional toolroom equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, EDM where
applicable) to produce and re-work components.
• Support new tooling introduction, modifications and continuous improvement of
existing tooling for med device manufacturing lines.
• Conduct fault-finding, repair and preventative maintenance on tools and fixtures to minimize downtime.
• Work closely with Engineering, CNC Machining and Production to resolve tooling issues and optimise tooling performance.
• Complete all work in line with GMP, quality and documentation requirements for
the medical device sector (e.g. ISO 13485 environment).
• Adhere to health & safety standards and maintain a clean, organised toolroom.

Requirements:
• Time-served Toolmaker / Toolroom Machinist or equivalent apprenticeship.
• Strong background in precision engineering and working to very tight
tolerances.
• proven experience in Jig grinding
• High-precision surface grinding
• Laser welding (repair/modification of tools/components)
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and use precision
measuring instruments (micrometers, gauges, CMM exposure beneficial).
• Experience in a regulated or high-precision environment (medical device,
pharma, aerospace, automotive or similar).
• Previous experience within the medical device sector is a plus
• Experience with EDM (wire / sink) and/or CNC machining methods.
• Knowledge of lean / continuous improvement methodologies.
