Key Job Accountabilities

We are looking for a technical manager who will be in charge of managing the technical coherency and technical integration of the entire MYRRHA research infrastructure. This person will be responsible for all technical management activities, a.o.:

  • Ensuring the link between the high level objectives of the MYRRHA programme and the different Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) elements.
  • Ensuring that the high-level objectives of MYRRHA are translated into the design requirements of the different sub-programmes (MINERVA, reactor, etc.);
  • Managing the coherency and harmony between all MYRRHA related projects, clusters and sub-programmes, from a technical point of view.
  • Managing the coherency between the technical design activities, the R&D activities and the safety requirements. He will do this in close collaboration with the MYRRHA R&D manager and the MYRRHA licensing managers (for both the reactor and the accelerator) and the MYRRHA programme director.
  • Ensure that the MYRRHA installation is fit for purpose and fit for use, in line with the high-level objectives and requirements.
  • Identify and closely monitor the important technical challenges throughout the entire MYRRHA programme. This is done in close collaboration with the technical design teams and the risk manager of the MYRRHA programme.
  • Inform the MMT on the overall technical progress of the MYRRHA programme and on the most important design challenges on a monthly basis.
  • Translate the MMT decisions to the different technical teams, in order to clarify the impact on the design of the different individual systems.
  • Manage the different technical review meetings related to the MYRRHA programme (e.g. the Technical Advisory Groups).
  • Integrate the recommendations of the technical review meetings into the technical design.
  • Manage the writing and editing of the yearly MYRRHA technical progress report.
  • Give presentations to the stakeholders of the MYRRHA programme on the technical progress.
  • Participate to national and international conferences in order to present the technical status and progress of the MYRRHA programme.

Required qualifications

The future technical manager of the MYRRHA-program must comply with the following requirements:

  • Hold an academic degree, preferably in engineering sciences;
  • Have at least 10 years’ experience with nuclear reactor technology;
  • Have at least 10 years’ experience in a technological or research environment;
  • Have at least 10 years’ experience in operating or designing nuclear installations;
  • Knowledge of accelerator related technologies and/or ISOL-systems is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of the Belgian safety regulatory framework is an advantage;
  • Experience with transfer processes from prototyping to industry;
  • Able to work in a R&D environment while meeting deadlines and budget;
  • Be strong in oral and written communication;
  • Be a natural integrator and facilitator of sharing information throughout large design teams;
  • Always keep a clear view on the scope and key objectives of the MYRRHA research infrastructure and how this translates / influences throughout the WBS of the MYRRHA programme;
  • Being an efficient people manager who can easily translate high level technical risks into concrete technical challenges, and vice versa;
  • Express (him/her)self fluently in English, and in Dutch or French, both orally as in writing.
