About the Organization

Blueberry River First Nations is covered under Treaty 8 and was recognized as the St. John Beaver Band in 1950. The name originates from the abundant supply of blueberries found in the valley by the river.

The community is located on Blue Berry River I.R. No.205, approximately 80km northwest of Fort St. John. Facilities available on the reserve include a band office, band hall, elementary school and headstart building, gymnasium, firehall, and garage. The Blueberry River First Nations has just completed a 10 million dollar state-of-the-art facility.

About the Opportunity

Blueberry River First Nations Health Services has a fantastic opportunity for a Youth Coordinator to join their friendly and dedicated team near Fort St. John, BC.

Working within a team and under the direction of the Health Director , you will be responsible for coordinating youth services and providing direction and supervision for the Youth Worker. This will involve planning, facilitating and evaluating recreational and social activities and events that promote and encourage youth (aged 9 - 24) to adopt a healthy lifestyle and make healthy choices. Activities will be age appropriate and emphasize traditional Beaver and Cree values and culture. 

To be successful in this position, you will have a diploma or certificate from a Child and Youth Program, Recreation and Sports Management Program or related field, and a minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth. A Class 5 driver’s license is essential, as is a valid Food Safe and First Aid Certificate. The ability to pass a criminal record check will be required, as is an appreciation of both the Beaver and Cree cultures.

You are a compassionate, supportive individual who is able to work cooperatively as part of a team and relate/work effectively with youth of all ages.

Strong communication, time management and organizational skills are essential, as are basic computer skills and the capacity to keep strong records.
