Maternity Cover – Full-time 30-36hrs per week – Fixed term contract 6 months

Our client is looking for a qualified Chef to NVQ or City & Guilds level to work on a fixed term contract.  You will be happy to work alone and have kitchen management experience including ordering and purchasing food.  You will need your own transport due to our client’s location. 

Specific Responsibilities

 

  1. To order supplies of food and consumable items through recognised and agreed suppliers ensuring quality, freshness, correct pricing and value set against the menu requirement.
  2. Preparation, cooking and serving from within the galley kitchens varying foods for the differing services operated.
  3. To ensure stock rotation systems are operated along with portion control measures in place and that deliveries are checked and stored appropriately and match orders placed and delivery notes / invoices provided.
  4. To write menus for the differing services operated along with cook, prepare and trial dishes to ensure suitability and presentation fits against the criteria required along with the equipment and resources needed to deliver in the numbers being catered for.
  5. Ensure food hygiene regulations are adhered to under all headings as well as the Health & Safety at work act. (Responsible for the recording of information in the safer food better business book)
  6. To ensure the working area occupied within the role of chef is cleaned and meets both company standard and food hygiene regulations.
  7. To oversee and manage a small team of assistants within the kitchens and ensuring an efficient meal service is operated between the kitchen and dining room and that meal courses fit in with journey times.
  8. To serve and assist customers should it be necessary to, by way of menu or support staff. (By Menu Example = Carving joint at the table) (Support Staff Example = Serve guests along with other food service team in the dining carriage
  9. To partake in training, development and qualifications for the job role including food hygiene, safety, food preparation and service as well as attend departmental staff meetings as requested by the company.
  10. To gain practical experience from other commercial catering operations and to further develop the post holders knowledge and skills.
  11. To show vigilance at all times, ensuring the security and safe keeping of stock, carriages and other related assets of the company.
  12. To report kitchen breakages, damage, faults and maintenance matters through the fault defect book and pass or advise the Manager.
  13. To assist and co-operate with management and work colleagues in other areas and duties as deemed necessary to maintain services and provide back up and support.
