Job Title:   Permanent Full Time, Catering Manager                                        

Reporting to:  Museum Manager

Location: Eden Camp, Malton

Key Objectives/Primary Job Purpose:

The Catering Manager will be expected to not only provide high quality meals and service, but also consider issues such as healthy eating promotion.  

The Catering Manager will line manage a small team, consisting of catering staff including  designated cooks,  supervisors and catering assistants, ensuring they are effectively led and organised across the site kitchen and dining areas, including bar.  The successful applicant will be an effective team leader with a proven track record of catering management. They will therefore be able to promote and sustain very high standards of hygiene, safety, quality and presentation and will take responsibility for ensuring that the team, equipment and premises meet internal and external audit and inspection standards.

Specific responsibilities include

  • To plan, and ensure that food is prepared, cooked and presented to the high standard required by the Company and our visitors.
  • To ensure that the Company’s reputation for excellent food and service is enhanced.
  • To control portion sizes and monitor waste.
  • To ensure supplies are correctly issued, used and accounted for, to carry out stock takes and food rotation procedures on a weekly basis.
  • To maintain records relating to food production activities and supplier information as required by the Director responsible for Catering.
  • To ensure Health & Safety and Food Safety Standards are maintained in line with Company policy.
  • To set objectives and be responsible for the day to day running of the kitchen including managing the recruitment and selection process to ensure that it effectively meets the need of the both the location and the Company
  • To assess employee performance and recognise training needs, and potential, as appropriate.
  • To hold team meetings on a regular basis to ensure employee understanding of standards required, and Company and client information.
  • To ensure that all training manuals for both procedures and new equipment, are kept up to date
  • To be the first point of contact for staff issues e.g. attendance, welfare, etc., as well as dealing with work related worries or concerns.
