Technical/Engineering develops new products, both for the Flexicon catalogue and also to meet customer’s specific requirements. This includes designing the product, selecting materials, manufacture or purchase of tooling, trialling the product and testing samples to ensure that they meet the product specification. Flexicon manufacturing processes include; injection moulding, crosshead and corrugation extrusion, metal turning, metal forming and assembly.
Flexicon has a suite of approximately 100 injection mould tools which are highly modular allowing it to mould several thousand different components.
The role will be primarily involved with the introduction of new tools and the modification and maintenance of existing tools. In addition to the tools the department produces various fixtures and gauges to aid assembly and inspection of component parts.
- Design & development of new injection mould cavities, cores and inserts for extensions to existing ranges.
- Evaluation of viability of project opportunity including payback period, resource and capital requirements
- Work with global suppliers to ensure new tools are delivered to specification.
- Work with the in-house toolroom to help maintain/modify and repair existing tools
- Project management ensuring that projects comes in on time and within budget
- Participation in the trialling of new products
- Carry out process and design FMEAs
- Occasional travel, including overseas, to other Flexicon facilities, Supplier and/or Customer sites may be required from time to time, sometimes involving staying overnight – for which adequate notice will be given
