Security Engineer 

London - £40,000 - £60,000 + Bonus + Benefits

 

 A widely recognised financial organisation is seeking a Security Engineer to join a growing security team. A core component of the organisations continued growth and success is their excellent IT function. As a Security Engineer, you’ll have a fundamental role in ensuring all cyber risks to the organisation are managed and maintained effectively. Beyond the day-to-day, however, you will also be involved in longer-term projects that are critical to the future proofing of the organisation from threat including design and testing, as well as ensuring that standards and policies are adhered to.

 

 Responsibilities:

 

  • Design and implement safety measures and data recovery plans
  • Install, configure and upgrade security software (e.g. antivirus programs)
  • Secure networks through firewalls, password protection and other systems
  • Investigate, isolate, and resolve infrastructure and network errors both autonomously and with the support of other IT staff/ 3rd party vendors with minimal downtime
  • Inspect hardware for vulnerable points of access
  • Monitor network activity to identify issues early and communicate them to IT teams
  • Act on privacy breaches and malware threats
  • Draft policies and guidelines
  • Serve as a security expert and advise other members of the organisation were necessary

 

 

Skills:

  • Proven experience in an IT Security position
  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field would be ideal
  • Hold a professional security certification (e.g. CompTIA Security+, CISSP, SSCP)
  • Experience installing, supporting and maintaining IT security
  • Exceptional Knowledge of patch management, firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems (e.g. TippingPoint, Languard)
  • Ideally from an IT infrastructure background but you will at least have a general understanding of key infrastructure including network, servers, storage, software systems and cloud technologies
  • Familiarity with security frameworks (e.g. IS27001, COBIT, SOC2, PCI DSS).
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with the new GDPR regulations
