Job Summary

This role offers you the opportunity to join a world-class development team and get in on the ground floor of an emerging market experiencing rapid growth. As a Technical Project Manager, you will be a focal point to identify and manage external resources and development partners to develop residential electronic locks, improve our existing products or evaluate new ideas and concepts.  As we continue to drive for speed to market, you will work very closely and be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team that brings these products to market. This is an ideal role for a hands-on experienced Technical Project Manager who is looking to make an impact and be part of the growth engine for the electronics segment of business.

The ideal candidate is someone who currently manages large scale technical projects, manages 3rd party vendors and formerly was a hands on hardware / firmware designer/developer.



Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, as a Technical Project Manager, you will be responsible for identifying external resources and development partners with electronics, firmware/software, mobile Apps and electromechanical expertise, managing the external resources to deliver to the projects’ objectives and goals, utilize project management tools and skills to deliver the projects on schedule and within budget, and take on project management activities on internal projects or customer engagements as secondary responsibility.

You will be involved in all phases of the electronics product life cycle and engage with a multi-disciplinary team including Electronics, Firmware and Mechanical Engineers, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Marketing, Finance and other functions. Projects will range in complexity from small projects or large multi-faceted projects with either internal and/or external resources or both.

  • Work very closely with Marketing and Engineering to understand project requirements, identify staffing gaps, develop a plan to utilize external resources where needed, and prioritize features and requirements -10%
  • Manage the external resources selection process through the use of Request for Information (RFI) or Request for Proposal (RFP), selection criteria and through Statement of Works (SOW) – 5%
  • Once a project is commenced, manage external resources to deliver against the SOW and the project commitments – 10%
  • Ensure project is on track based on its deliverables, budget and schedule with a regular cadence to review status and follow-through on risk areas – 30%
  • Address road blocks, conflicts, requirement changes and priorities with the appropriate stakeholders – 5%
  • Identify risks and ways to mitigate them or lower their impact – 5%
  • Develop project schedules with sufficient details to ensure all critical paths are clear to all involved – 10%
  • Engage on internal projects where partners, customers or 3rd party developers are involved to provide project management support and oversight to the engineering and cross functional teams - 15%
  • Continuously seeks, shares and implements best practices – 5%
  • lead a cross functional team as needed on root cause analysis efforts for project related issues as they arise – 5%



Education and Experience Profile

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Project Management
  • 10+ years of experience in the field of electronics, firmware, software, Mobile Apps and/or IoT
  • PMP – Project Management Certification is a plus
  • MBA is a plus



Required Skills

The ideal candidate has technical project management skills with electronics consumer products experience that include hardware both electronics and mechanical and embedded software or firmware.  Also, the candidate has successfully managed external resources and development partners to deliver products from early concept phase into production.  The candidate has been technical developer early in his/her career path.  Additionally, to be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:

  • Successfully utilizes project management tools to manage project and communicate – such as MS Project, Defect Trackers (ex: JIRA), MS Office Suite, Activity Trackers Offline/Online Tools..etc
  • Engineering or Technical Project Management experience required
  • Experience managing multiple projects with medium to high complexity
  • Must be able to work and thrive in a team-based environment
