Job Description

My client are seeking an experienced hotel manager to run two neighbouring hotels located in Lapland – 75 rooms in total. Deep inside the Arctic Circle, these picturesque hotels sit on the border between Finland and Sweden and are set on the edge of a vast wilderness where beauty, nature and wildlife abound.

The Hotels Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the hotels and will lead the 50 strong team to deliver first-rate customer service and enhance product quality. Duties will include:

- Pre-opening organisation of staff and operational functions.

- Ensuring all F&B outlets are well run, within budget, to the clients’ satisfaction. This will include creating menus with the kitchen staff, ordering from suppliers and ensuring that quality service standards are met in the restaurant.

- Maintaining the presentation of the hotel (including rooms) through the housekeeping staff and the maintenance team.

- Overseeing the reception duties and making sure that the reception staff are providing a positive face for the company, and that all associated administration work is completed accurately.

- Motivating the team of colleagues and authorising staffing rotas and working arrangements in line with set budgets.

- Ensuring the welfare of all staff and keeping staff morale high.

- Recruitment and appointment of staff as required.

- Training of staff.

- Dealing with any staff disciplinary issues.

- Ensuring all health and safety requirements are adhered to and potential risks diminished.

- The position has operational P/(L) responsibility.

Requirements

Working in the Arctic requires physical fitness, passion and above all commitment. The remote environment and the intensity of the client programme are not for the faint hearted but it offers opportunities like nowhere else.

The role would suit someone with hotel experience whose strength lies in operations.

A “can do attitude” is essential, and so is a willingness to step into other roles as necessary to ensure the smooth running of the programmes. Candidates should also have:

- Hotel management experience.

- An outgoing personality, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well presented.

- The ability to lead a team.

- Strong organizational skills and be able to implement and monitor systems and procedures ensuring attention to detail at all times.

- A calm temperament and ability to deal with challenging situations head-on.

- Good IT skills.

- An excellent command of written & spoken English.

This role will involve spending considerable time in Lapland (resident) during the dark winter months when temperatures can drop to as low as -40C. This is a fascinating part of the world – magical, even – and we strive to ensure that our guests have a memorable stay in Lapland.
