Job Description        

 

Role Title:

Senior Quality Engineer

Reporting To:

Value Stream Manager (Direct) / Quality Manager (Functional)

Role Purpose:

To support the Value Stream Manager and Quality Manager in the day to day running of the quality elements of the value stream, to ensure customer satisfaction is achieved and maintained, at optimum costs, in order to enhance both company performance and long-term business development. To take a lead role in the preparation of new business activities within the value streams.

 

 

 

 

Key Elements/Tasks

 

·      Maintain and operate within IATF 16949 quality system requirements in addition to customer specific requirements.

·      Apply Quality core tools to improve Customer satisfaction and prevent quality concerns

·      Maintain meeting structures to ensure full quality representation at daily meetings, including taking necessary actions to support the value stream

·      Conduct internal and external audits

·      Maintain and monitor the SPC management system

·      Produce and maintain core tools documentation including process flow charts, control plans, FMEA, and all elements of AIAG standard customer PPAP submissions, to an accuracy level adequate for customer preparation and discussion.

·      Support engineering in the commissioning of new plant and equipment.

·      Liaison and make visits to customers on quality issues from advanced quality planning processes through to problem solving/resolutions using 8D discipline.

·      Complete audits in line with current company audit requirements. This may include IATF16949, ISO14001, VDA 6.3 or other audit methods.

·      Support the value streams on a day to day basis regarding local quality issues. Has authority to stop production when a clear breach of quality disciplines observed.

·      Manage measurement systems analysis

·      Train operators in quality system, SPC and measuring systems requirements

·      Manage customer complaints with customer and within the value stream – liaise closely with the customer and arrange containment and customer communication of problem solving status. Manage internal containment and problem solving activity.

·      Support engineering in FMEA reviews

·      Involvement in the introduction of gauging / inspection systems

·      Support Customer and 3rd party certification audits

·      Ensuring the health, safety and welfare of self and others at all times.

·      Any other reasonable duties that may be assigned in line with business needs.

 

Additional Requirements to the above  – Senior Quality Engineer

 

·      Manage day to day activity of quality engineering and quality technician levels, as required

·      Manage the day to day operation of the plant launch function, including liaison with sales and engineering teams globally, management of customer information flow, handling customer visits and reviews, internal feasibility, gate review and escalation processes. Liaising with production and manufacturing teams to ensure programs are feasible and completed in line with timing milestones.

·      Support and deputize for Quality Manager as required.

·      Complete monthly corporate quality reporting requirements as required.

·      Co-ordinate quality aspects of feasibility, APQP and PPAP activities across the value stream

·      Complete customer APQP documentation

·      Develop and promote best Quality practices into business.

·      Management of Customer STA on site visits

·      Management of customer quality relationships, including on site visits worldwide, co-ordination of problem-solving activity, and customer response management

·      Lead Quality Improvement teams

·      Lead role in the sourcing and commissioning of inspection and gauging systems.

·      Daily supervision of gauge room and or / laboratory personnel where necessary

·      Manage and monitor weekly Customer databases regarding Company performance with associated actions for improvement.

·      Support corporate Quality systems initiatives.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

Role Related Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Personal Attributes

Qualifications or Functional Experience

Essential

·         HND  Mechanical/Production Eng./Manufacturing or equivalent - minimum

·         At least 5 years experience within Quality Assurance Engineer role ( Automotive background preferred)

·         Automotive knowledge in SPC, FMEA 8D problem solving resolution and auditing.(Core tools)

·         Good knowledge of automotive new business practices (PPAP and APQP)

Desirable

·         Six sigma knowledge (Black belt preferred)

·         Audit qualification – quality systems

·         Engineering degree

·         Good knowledge and understanding of TS 16949 and Customer specific requirements

 

 

System or Knowledge

Essential

·      PC literate with good working knowledge of Excel, Word

·      Customer Specific requirement and web site experience and knowledge essential

 

 

Desirable
