Health and Safety Officer

Objective

Maintain a safe working environment for all employees and promoting a positive health and safety culture in the work place

Accountable to

Strategy Planning

Responsible for

Responsible for maintain and promoting a health and safety culture in the workplace through implementation of guidelines established by regulatory bodies, and direction from management

Working relationships

   All-UK departments, European Branches and HQ

   All office and warehouse staff

   External companies, Facilities suppliers, consultants etc. as required

Key result areas

   Timely completion of regular safety reports and statistics for management review

   Relevant completion of necessary training for all staff and maintenance of records

   Maintaining an up to date knowledge of new HSE (Health, Safety and environment) legislation as well as other developments that can impact our business

Key tasks

   Provide health and safety courses for employees to educate them on necessary safety procedure (e.g. manual handling, MHE, Hazardous training, Fire Marshall, first aid etc.)

   Monitor work processes to identify unsafe practices or breach of safety regulations

   Conduct risk assessments for existing and new operational processes and work areas with high potential hazards

  Organise safety training to induct and educate company staff

   Work with external contractors and facilities suppliers to ensure all safety requirements are met 

   Draw up safe operational practices necessary to minimise risk of work place accidents

   Carry out investigations on incidents, complaints, and recurrent health cases and provide solutions

   Review company operational procedures and ensure they are in line with external safety regulations

   Inspect work machinery, equipment and records to ensure safe installation

   Maintain accurate records of incidents

   Facilitate and schedule repairs of unsafe or damaged equipment

   Oversee the set up and placement of safety signs and equipment for maximum effectiveness.

   Attend health and safety seminars to update job knowledge and enhance skills

Core skills and qualifications

   Working towards or obtained a bachelor’s degree in risk management, engineering, safety management or related discipline (NE bosh)

   First Aid certificate

   Minimum 3 years’ experience in H&S

  Passionate about health and safety

   Strong problem-solving skills and organisational and influencing skills

   Strong IT skills

   Clear communicator (verbal and written)
