Controls Manager

Controls Manager (893519) Coventry, England

Salary: car allowance

Job Purpose

 

Duties of the controls project Manager include, but are not limited to the co-ordination of the controls subcontractors and feedback in to the project team the requirements, progress and issues being encountered, and with the support of the line manager, deliver the plant from installation to production.

 Reporting lines

 Direct reports:     12-20 including Robot & PLC Engineers and electricians

 Key Responsibilities

 Sales Tasks

Review Change Requests and identify the materials and resources required to deliver the changes. Including delivering the following information:-

  • Identify the requirements and develop a detailed Resource Plan to deliver the change/project.
  • Identify the requirements and develop a detailed Bill of Materials to deliver the change, including suppliers etc.
  • Comprehensive description of the change to provide for future reference and for inclusion in the customer submission.
  • Concept timing plan showing time scale of change and implementation.
  • Assumptions / Exceptions list.
  • Update the customers change documents to detail the changes.
  • Be able to modify the quotation template to submit a formal quotation to the customer for the change.

 

Project Tasks

Understand and implement the scope of the project and the definition of the roles and responsibilities split between the customers and client.

  • Manage the Controls Team of subcontractors to deliver the agreed scope on budget and within the timeline. This requires the following:-
    • Create updated and maintain a Microsoft Project timing plan.
    • Create update and maintain a project resource chart in Microsoft Excel.
    • Able to present the project progress using the two items above as supporting evidence.
  • Identify “on costs” and highlight at an early stage
  • Provide detailed daily site reports, for both senior management review and for reporting to customer identifying:-
    • Resource on site
    • Activities undertaken during the day. Not only personally but an overview of the suppliers activities.
    • Safety issues identified
    • Design issued identified
    • Timing issues identified
    • Resourcing issues identified
    • New developments
    • Potential Lessons Learnt for the future.
  • Maintain and track a Project Concern and Corrective Action Report.
  • Able to represent client at customer project meetings and provide feedback to the whole cross company project team.

  

Engineering Tasks

  • Act as the data manager for the controls portion of the project:-
    • Collecting data from the design team
    • Issuing data to the project team
    • Managing the updates and feedback of data from site to the design team
    • Ensuring site backups are taken and maintained.
  • Understand the project engineering information:-
    • Process requirements.
    • Technology requirements.
    • Commodity Data
    • PLC Software
    • Robot Application
    • Joining Applications
  • Organise and minute Controls Team Meetings

  

Site Management Tasks

  • Awareness of the site safety requirements, both client and client and implement and monitor.
  • Write/update method statements and risk assessments.
  • Review Supplier Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
  • Supervise and report back for the Health and safety requirements.
  • Identify supplier failings.
  • Understand supplier responsibilities, and ensure they are delivering.
  • Monitor deliveries to site, and manage associated paperwork.
  • Organise and monitor the sub-contract labour on site.

 

Buy Off Tasks

  • Generate and review the data to enable the performance buy off's to be carried out.
  • Feedback issues and drive remedial actions.

Technical/Functional Competencies 

Project Engineer with relevant degree and/or 10yrs relevant experience                             

Experience in specialised automation engineering environment

Experience of PLC or electrical control design

Experience in leading project teams to successfully implement complex engineering projects on time and to a budget

Behavioural Competencies

Able to effectively plan, organise and co-ordinate

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to work within a defined framework of policies and processes

Willingness to learn bespoke customer applications                   

 

Experience of defining, costing and quoting complex engineering solutions

Numerical, ability to define & understand complex costing

High degree of computer literacy

Experience of full suite of MS Office & MS Project

Experience of Siemens, Schneider or Rockwell

Experience in automotive industry, ideally BiW
