VP/Sr. Director Communications

JOB PURPOSE

Strategize and implement communications plan for BBC Worldwide Productions (BBCWP), the production arm of BBC Worldwide North America (BBCWNA).

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Represent BBC Worldwide Productions, at a senior communications level raising the profile of the business and its executives through publicity and PR activities - including trade, consumer and award campaigns
  • Devise and implement clear, strategic approach to supporting commissions/deals
  • Forge strong relationships with partnering networks/producers/platforms to ensure prominent positioning for the business and productions, as well as their active support in publicity/PR campaigns
  • Forge and maintain close links with a wide range of media – trades, radio, print, online and electronic outlets - to maximize publicity opportunities
  • Create high awareness of BBCWP executives through speaking opportunities at leading industry events, etc.
  • Lead in crisis management as necessary, alerting all key stakeholders immediately
  • Support international sales with materials and/or talent access
  • Lead in brand management on global brands and/or IP that is formatted across multiple territories eg. Top Gear, DWTS, etc.
  • Talent management and liaison with agents and productions to ensure strong and fruitful relationships between BBCWP and key talent
  • Closely monitor output on screen and in print to minimize negative media coverage and consumer complaints.
  • Position BBCWP with key industry bodies, guilds, festivals etc. e.g. WGA, PGA, TV Academy, BAFTA/LA, SAG, HFPA, HRTS, plus MIP, NATPE, BAFTA (UK), Edinburgh, etc.
  • Create and produce BBCWP events and/or negotiate and activate sponsorship opportunities - as/when appropriate and contingent upon budget - to support industry profile and business-to-business communication.
  • Create and implement communication with the creative talent communities about the benefits of association with BBCWP
  • Act as key west coast spokesperson on behalf of BBCWNA as/when necessary
  • Manage staff and agencies as appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Excellent knowledge of press and PR activities, based on at least 8 years experience
  • Excellent knowledge of and contacts within trade and key consumer press
  • Excellent communication skills, writing, pitching and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to devise and implement strategy
  • Effective management skills
  • Ability to gain the trust of senior executives and deliver good counsel effectively
  • Talent management expertise
  • University degree
  • Great knowledge of US television industry
  • Knowledge of the BBC/UK programming a plus
  • Event organization skills
  • Flexible/nimble with an ability to learn fast
