Java Developer required for Barclays, a transatlantic consumer, corporate and investment bank. This is an excellent opportunity for a Java Developer who is looking for a new and exciting career. The successful person will ideally have 3-4 years plus in Java programming and any experience in mobile development would be an advantage. Role Purpose

The Barclays Mobile Banking Gateway team at Radbroke is looking for a Java Developer with the following responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the software development for one or more applications / products across the detailed design, build and unit test phases of the lifecycle.
  • To maintain a technical understanding of a component or sub-component within an application / product, providing support for technical queries, live incidents and problems.
  • Key Accountabilities

Technical Consultancy (5%)

  • Review Technical Feasibility Studies (TFS) for projects that impact applications / products within domain, and assess potential impact.
  • Solve software-related problems, providing analysis and recommendations as appropriate.

 Technical Development – Application Management (Design, Build, Unit Test) (70%)

  • Participate in technical implementation planning, ensuring that the integrity of live operations will be maintained.
  • Support the handover of software into business-as-usual (BAU) operation, providing the relevant IT service teams with information and education relating to the system technology and function.
  • Coordination and resolution of the Problem Management of system problems.
  • Understand the various phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Undertake impact assessment of problem records against applications / products within domain.
  • Review test strategies to guarantee the quality of the delivered software assist in the diagnosis of system problems encountered during testing.
  • Collaborate with other software engineers across teams to build technical solution.
  • Deliver to all software engineering quality standards / benchmarks.

Knowledge and Expertise

  • End-to-end software development lifecycle
  • Software development methodologies, e.g. waterfall, agile
  • Project management methodologies, e.g. RUP, CMMi, Prince II, PMI (Preferred)
  • Awareness of leading-edge tools, techniques, services within IT
  • Ability to interface with infrastructure and service management areas.

      Essential:

  • Software development consisting of some of the following languages and technologies:
  • Ideally 3 years Java programming experience
  • Oracle DB
  • JSON
  • Junit
  • Automated Testing
  • Strong level of experience of IT software development (essential)
  • Good level of experience of Mobile development (preferred)
  • Formal qualification in area of specialism, e.g. Sun Java certification (beneficial).
