Staff Scientist (10046) Santa Clara, California


Position Summary:

Plans, initiates, directs and executes all scientific research and/or development strategies within the research/development areas. Maintains awareness of all new/upcoming principles/theories and advises top management.  Through research, proves and applies scientific theories to develop new and/or improved products, processes or technologies. Contributes to scientific literature/conferences and act as spokesperson on corporate research/development.

Post-doctoral experience is desirable. Direct research experience with microarrays, SNP genotyping and advanced data analysis is a plus.



Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, analyze, and interpret laboratory experiments leading to the development of new biochemical assay product concepts and designs
  • Develops solutions to expand the application of Affymetrix technologies
  • Uses methods and technologies to devise novel approaches to the generation of high quality, reliable and quantitative data
  • Applies a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and issues
  • Takes ownership of their work and potentially the work of others
  • Fosters interdisciplinary teams and Interfaces with various departments and serves as internal consultant
  • Participate in development of intellectual property and patent applications, if applicable
  • Develops appropriate documents (i.e. QCs, SOPs, instruction manuals, documents required, etc.)
  • Identifies new product concepts (understanding of COG’s analysis) and potential markets
  • Interacts with customers to obtain voice of customer, if applicable
  • Participates in process and operation improvement opportunities
  • Responds to internal and external  inquiries
  • Complies with company quality management systems, policies and procedures
  • Provides mentorship/training, when applicable
  • Additional duties/responsibilities according to business needs







Education and years of related experience:

BS 6-8 years or MS 5-7 years or equivalent experience

PhD 2-4 years
