MySQL Database Administrator Summary:

Signature Consultants has an opportunity for a MySQL BDA.  In this role the candidate will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the MySQL Database Environments working in cooperation with the IT Operations, Network Engineering, Gateway Technical Operations and Boeing teams to provide highly available and reliable database systems to support the company's services, systems and employees. Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing day-to-day support and maintenance for key MySQL databases and services of our enterprise/commercial application platform
  • Responsible for investigating potential problems and issues raised by business users; this includes being on-call rotation as needed
  • Monitor database daily events to proactively optimize system performance and oversee data fixes for business issues or to address application issues based on the monitoring events.
  • Accountable for maintaining database configurations in compliance with established best practices and established baseline configurations
  • Develop and maintain an in depth understanding of the database architecture and the general application functionality used to maintain data integrity
  • Upgrade/install and configure MySQL database software
  • Perform backup/recovery, service database user requests, evaluate tools and applications
  • Plan and design database architecture to support new application development
  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly database checklist with historical trending reports
  • Provide monthly KPI metrics and trending reports
  • Work service requests and help desk tickets on a daily basis
  • Suggest improvements and seek additional training to maintain skills necessary to execute duties
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by management

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated advanced skills with MySQL database administration, maintenance, performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Experienced with MySQL clustering & replication technologies, writing custom UNIX scripts and SQL scripts to automate tasks
  • Advanced working knowledge of database security best practices, performance tuning, database backup/restore and disaster recovery planning
  • Ability to work in conjunction with other IT groups and company departments to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and integration requirements from the database perspective
  • Ability to Project Manage complex database and replication projects to completion
  • Thorough understanding of IT operational policies and procedures within Database discipline
  • Proficiency with Nagios Monitoring performance tools
  • Ability to work with the team to automate reactive procedures where possible, and to promote rapid response to known issues
  • Ability to work with other teams to promote changes to production and other environments

Experience & Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/MIS or similar industry experience
  • 3-5 years of MySQL Database administration
  • MySQL or MSSQL certification preferred
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux preferred
  • Experience in a telecommunications environment is preferred
