Solution Architect – Customer Experience

My multi-national e-commerce client requires a Solution Architect to join on a permanent basis in their London offices. This role is paying up to £85K for the right person.

They are passionate about providing the best customer experience so this means building systems that are performant, resilient and scalable using cloud-based technologies.

This Solution Architect will sit in a team responsible for customer authentication and registration and the issuing of security tokens for customers. They manage customer profile data and saved lists and make this data accessible to other parts of the business. Identity is at the heart of all journeys on the website and interacts with many parts of the business.

About the role:
As a Solution Architect for the Customer Experience (CX) Domain for this organisation you will be accountable for:
• Responsibility for the design of enterprise-grade software solutions to support the CX platform
• Ensuring that the correct software integration patterns and practises are followed, and designed to high technical standards
• Responsible for identifying, assessing and selecting the most appropriate technologies, architectural styles and patterns needed to deliver a software solution
• Support project and programme management to understand, communicate and manage technical dependencies across platforms and projects
• Develop strong relationships with Architects, Business Analysts, Software Engineers and other Platform Teams across the organisation in order to guarantee that solution designs map to the requirements of the business and are aligned to the strategic roadmap
• Work with external partners to ensure that their output adheres to company standards
• Ensure that any non-functional requirements, environmental or technology constraints are captured, considered and addressed as part of the solution design
• Guide and mentor within the teams you work with, and provide feedback to the line managers around performance and reviews
• Seek out and actively promote ideas and techniques in the community – both within the company and externally

To achieve this you will need to:
• Work with other the Architects throughout platform/programmes and those from external vendors and partners
• Remain abreast of the work that the internal and external teams operating in your area are undertaking
• Consider the impact of design decisions on a variety of quality attributes, as well as functional requirements, to ensure that non-functional requirements such as scalability, performance and resilience are met.
• Effectively communicate technical designs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Be familiar with the use of modelling languages and artefacts to convey designs and be comfortable translating them into a higher level view, through selection of the appropriate medium for the given audience.

About you:
• Minimum 3 years of experience in leading the design and implementation of systems powering an organisation of significant scale, including eCommerce or Multi-Channel. This may have been as a Software Architect or a Solution Architect.
• A background in a retail organisation would be a significant benefit, including knowledge of key Retail concepts as well as the organizational, business and technical challenges that they face.
• Strong architectural and technical background; significant experience of delivering both custom solutions and of integrating enterprise applications, and associated architectural patterns and styles
• Appreciation of a variety of architectural styles such as Service Oriented Architectures including Microservices, Event Driven Architectures, Client-Server Architectures, REST etc.
• The ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders ranging from software engineers up to executive board members
• A sense of urgency and the ability to work in a multi-tasking manner and to leverage your prioritization skills to cope with working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to rapid change
• Ability to assess 3rd party products and technologies, along with being able to evaluate whether to take a build or buy approach.
• Good experience of working with globally distributed cloud architectures would be a useful addition
• You must be effective and comfortable in fluid situations and able to deal with ambiguity
• Demonstrate influencing, negotiating and problem solving skills
• The ability to clearly communicate across different levels of the business and IT

Desirable skills:
Ideally you will have a background in software design and engineering. Experience in high-volume, cloud-based and distributed systems would be a significant benefit.
