Verathon Medical (Canada) ULC – Intermediate Mechanical Engineer

Verathon Medical (Canada) ULC is growing and has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate level Mechanical Engineer. This position is responsible for researching and developing medical devices and equipment to support the commercialization of company developed products. The responsibilities include cost estimation, design, verification and validation. This position works closely with all members of the VMCA Research and Development team to provide technical acumen and development for a variety of technologies.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Designing, prototyping, testing and qualification of mechanical designs for high reliability and high performance medical devices

·         Rapid prototype builds using a variety of materials and technologies

·         Specify/recommend materials, finishes and processes for mechanical parts and packaging

·         Follow all policies, procedure and standards for engineering documentation to ensure compliance with corporate document management policy

·         Complete mechanical design documentation, including BOM documents (Bill of Materials) and part specifications

·         Participate in design reviews

·         Specify and manage tool development for injection molding

·         Work closely with Manufacturing team and support them to resolve issues quickly

·         Prepare samples for sterilization processes for medical equipment

·         Prepare samples for regulatory testing based on IEC and CSA standards

·         Participate as a team member contributing to the overall system design of new products

·         Ability to play a significant technical leadership role in one or more department projects

·         Support VMCA's Quality Management System

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

·            5-7 years in mechanical device development required

·            BSc in Mechanical Engineering or diploma

·            Skill in developing projects in medical device research and development department

·            Experience in all areas of design, prototyping, testing and qualification

·            Excellent knowledge of, and the ability to use SolidWorks and MS Office applications

·            Ability to make independent judgments using sounds engineering principles and techniques

·            Ability to write concisely and accurately with meticulous attention to detail and clarity

·            Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner

·            Strong interpersonal communication skills

·            Knowledge of FDA, IEC, and ISO regulations a plus
