DevOps Engineer – 12 months – Portsmouth - Defence Client

Advantage Resourcing is recruiting a specialist DevOps Engineer for a unique opportunity to work in a new Team to help create and drive the implementation of our clients strategy for Development process improvement. The client has undergone in recent years a transition to an Agile development approach and now want take the next steps of the transformation to Continuous Integration.

This will be for an initial 12 months and will be at the rate of £61.69 per hour (usual hours are 37 per week). Please note that candidate will be required to go through Security Clearance for this vacancy.

This role will involve a number of tasks including: ensuring stable development/test environments and tooling; supporting continuous integration/build and release cycles; providing support to live issues where needed. The role will play a critical part in defining, developing and enhancing our automated tools and systems to support the build, integration, testing and release of a complex software stack targeting multiple devices.

Responsibilities

• Support plans for developing the organisation Development processes in a drive towards, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Source Code Management, Cloud Technologies in the context of Software Development, Software Testing and Software Delivery.
• Delivering assignments in accordance with agreed scope, time, financial and quality measures
• Client engagement and stakeholder management
• Define DevOps strategies and plans
• Facilitate workshops and meetings
• Ensure our tools and pipelines are continually evolving ahead of business needs
• Provide technical and methodology related support for Scrum Team Members
• Initiate, drive process improvement with new technology and tools.
• Plan, develop and test any additional tooling where existing solutions won't suffice, after gathering requirements from stakeholders.
• To keep up with new cloud technologies and continually strive to find better ways to achieve the scheduled deadlines.

The Individual

The following skills
• Proven exposure using CI and CD tools for cloud technologies
• Agile software development environment.
• Excellent experience of continuous delivery and automated test frameworks.
• Web Service and REST API communication, testing procedures and analysis.
• Using and administrating CI tools (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo).
• Tools surrounding cloud technologies such as Docker
• Modern build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
• Source Control Management (e.g. GIT)
• Collaboration tools (e.g. Confluence)
• Issue Tracking (e.g. Jira)
• Linux
• Databases – Oracle, SQL
• TCP/IP networks, routing and traffic analysis
• JQL (Jira Query Language) and SIL (Simple Issue Language) knowledge/exposure

Having an understanding of programming methodologies, JavaScript knowledge and experience of performance and scalability tools would be highly desirable.
