Director, Finance (National Geographic Channel – Washington, DC)
The Director of Finance manages the accounting and finance organization for three US cable networks: National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, and Nat Geo Mundo.  This position manages two senior managers and a senior financial analyst.  The Director of Finance reports to the VP of Finance and Controller.    
  • ERP month end closing
  • Records all financial transactions to the G/L and monthly accounting
  • Maintains accuracy of the G/L and all sub-ledgers
  • Cash flow planning and reporting
  • Enforces compliance of GAAP, SOX procedures, and internal controls
  • Coordinates closely with Fox Network Groups (FNG) finance organization and meets monthly close and reporting deadlines
  • Coordinates with internal and external auditors and provides all required schedules
  • Provides service to internal organizations on payables and coordinates with FNG’s shared services organization
  • Provides monthly internal financial reporting to NGC organizations and prepares monthly forecast
  • Maintains budget and long range plan models and ensures budget information is accurately loaded into FNG budgeting systems
  • Assists with the development of the budget and long range plan
  • Manages and settles complex intercompany balances
  • Develops and maintains processes around the channel’s ancillary revenue streams
  • Works closely with FNG groups on the recognition and booking of ad sales and affiliate revenue


  • Accounting degree and CPA preferred
  • At least 5 years management experience
  • Experience in comprehensive close process including revenue, expenses, and balance sheet
  • Experience in cable television industry preferred, other media industry experience considered
  • Knowledge of program rights, royalties, and production accounting
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work heavy schedule at month-end and during annual planning process
