My Client is a London-based SME delivering mechanical and electrical services for both the public and private sector. They provide a variety of services from one off installations and servicing, to capital investment schemes and planed preventative maintenance programs with an emergency call out service 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.

They are looking to expand their commercial gas team by hiring a Commercial Gas Engineer to deliver exceptional workmanship across their London borough contracts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Undertake all allocated gas related reactive and planned maintenance tasks to a high standard.
• Complete tasks raised by the planning team within SLA requirements, with work orders raised and completed in real time,
• Providing updates of job statuses to planning team through the use of a PDA device for each job.
• Work with the planning and procurement team to ensure correct parts are ordered and installed with minimal disruption to clients.
• Provide gas related technical support in all instances (e.g. advice and guidance regarding operational or functional issues).
• Analysis of performance statistics, examine reports and investigate failures to reduce non-conformities and increase customer satisfaction and 1st time fix measurements.
• Complete engineering surveys and technical reports as necessary, distributing all key data to relevant personnel and uploading to a PDA.
• Ensure appropriate checks are carried out in line with current gas safety legislation and standards.
• Attend relevant training where necessary to ensure professional competency and industry skills are maintained.

• Respond to and make safe all safety-related works following processes set out by the manufacturer’s instructions & Clients.
• Proactively manage task volumes in conjunction with the planning team.


QUALIFICATIONS

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent is required
Hold a Gas Safe Card.

Candidates must be in possession of the following ACS qualifications: CCN1, CEN1, CPA1,
COCN1, CODNCO1, CDGA1, CIGA1, and TPCP1 or TPCP1A

It would be desirable for candidates to be in possession of ACS qualifications: CORT1, ICPN1


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of pumps, pressurisation units and other plant.
• Mechanical and electrical components associated with repairs and installation works.
• Knowledge of HASAWA 1974 and working practices in a construction or building services sector.
• Function and appreciation of boilers and water heaters in a commercial setting.

Skills

• Pragmatic, efficient and confident approach to decision-making.
• Great communicator, who is able to turn technical jargon into information understandable to different audiences (staff, clients, customers etc).
• Translate drawings and schematic diagrams and have a keen eye for detail.
• Have strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Being organised, keeping your workplace/station clean and tidy.
• Able to thoroughly examine and investigate issues that arise in a commercial gas/heating setting, and subsequently complete reports on findings with recommendations to resolve and fix the issue(s).
• Able to learn new processes in a reasonably fast-paced way.
• Competent in Microsoft Office suite.

Experience

• 5 years or more in commission, service, repair and breakdown of commercial direct & indirect fired gas appliances, pumps, pressurisation units and other plant.
• Forced draught burners and atmospheric experience is necessary.
• BMS experience is necessary.
• Working with boilers and water heaters up to 2000kW.
• Use of a PDA to communicate and report back to a planning/support team.
Planning, prioritising, coordinating, multi-tasking and completing work assignments within deadlines in a busy environment.

Special Factors

The successful candidate will…
• Be flexible in their work approach to working hours. May be asked to work outside of normal working hours as and when required for the company to meet its commitments to its contracts. This may be the participation in an “out of hours” call out rota.
• Be fluent in English and capable of communication via speaking, reading and writing.
• Have a full driving licence UK/EU.
