We are currently recruiting a Demand Forecasting Department Manager

Contract : Contract role through MPH

Work Location : Abu Dhabi, UAE

Duration : 2 years 

Work Status : Resident, Single

Work Schedule : 5 days a week / 8 hours a day

 

JOB SUMMARY:

  • The Demand Forecasting Department Manager is responsible for managing the development of COMPANY’s Power and Water Forecasts for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to establish the baseline against which COMPANY procures capacity and fuel to satisfy anticipated demand. This includes amending and challenging all forecasting outputs to ensure accuracy and completeness for incorporation into COMPANY’s integrated Masterplan and Statement of Future Capacity Requirements. The Department Manager is also responsible for monitoring staff performance and providing continuous feedback and support to foster Directorate improvement efforts

MAIN ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Forecasting Planning Department Manager must ensure all Planning activities comply with Law Number 2 of 1998, Electricity and Transmission Code, Water Transmission Code, COMPANY’s License and any supplementary Regulation & Supervision Bureau (RSB) guidelines

Demand Forecasting

  • Managing the delivery of robust annual Power and Water Forecasts for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

This includes:

  1. Reviewing and improving COMPANY’s modelling and statistical analysis tools and techniques to improve the accuracy and robustness of demand forecasts
  2. Ensuring external inputs including data provided by mega-projects, as well as per capita demands, are incorporated into COMPANY’s forecasts to accurately identify additional power generation/water desalination capacity requirements
  3. Advising colleagues on the appropriate use and limitations of various forecasting data types and sources
  4. Reviewing and challenging Power and Water forecast model outputs, identifying and evaluating the root causes of any data inaccuracies
  5. Supporting the presentation and communication of power and water forecasts to external stakeholders including the Regulation & Supervision Bureau (RSB), Energy Authority, Central Government and other stakeholders
  • Managing the provision of inputs as required to support the preparation of COMPANY’s Annual Statistical Report and other publications, as required
  • Overseeing the department’s knowledge management activities including archiving of public and private historical data, tools and outputs for future use and/or audit
  • Reviewing and endorsing the Statement of Future Capacity Requirements in coordination with the Integrated Planning Department Manager

Inter-Directorate Coordination

  • Coordinating with Tariffs and Settlements colleagues to provide input into COMPANY’s Bulk Supply Tariff (BST)
  • Coordinating with Contract Management colleagues to review any discrepancies between forecasted demand and COMPANY’s supply contracts
  • Coordinating with Fuel Administration colleagues to ensure robust, long-term fuel supply strategies

Business Planning and Performance

  • Contributing to the development and achievement Directorate key performance indicators (KPIs) and targets
  • Managing the implementation of Directorate performance improvement efforts, monitoring effectiveness and impact
  • Monitoring department staff performance, providing feedback and coaching where necessary to ensure continuous improvement
  • Contributing to manpower and succession planning activities in coordination with the Corporate Support Directorate when required. This includes identifying department colleagues training and development requirements for incorporation into COMPANY’s Annual Training Plan

KEY RESULT AREAS:

  • Approved and effective communication of accurate and robust annual Power and Water Forecasts to relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Accurate and timely delivery of COMPANY’s Annual Statistical Report
  • Achievement of Demand Forecasting Department KPIs and targets

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant field such as Economics, Econometrics or Statistics
  • Master Degree in a relevant field is preferable

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE LEVEL:

  • Minimum of 10 years of varied experience in power or water demand forecasting or a related role
  • In-depth knowledge of demand forecasting techniques, including advanced modelling tools/software
  • Experience of leading teams of seven or more employees
  • Good understanding of the Gulf region and its unique forecasting requirements and constraints
  • English language is mandatory, Arabic is preferable
