Secure Drilling Services (SDS) is looking for a Data Acquisition Specialist to complete Data Acquisition related projects that involve developing solutions to improve successful deployment of specialized electronics and software applications in support of field operations Responsible for the operation/maintenance/support/training of the electronic hardware, field computers, and reporting software that provides our product line’s (Well Report) to the client.

Responsibilities of Data Acquisition Team

  •     Support field operations personnel in the use of  field computer hardware/ well reporting software
  •     Support field operations in the use of Data Acquisition electronics and specialized computer applications
  •     Support field operations in the use of all data communication equipment and software
  •     Install, commission, and maintain Data Acquisition electronics, and system components on CPD and Well Testing packages
  •     Provide 24/7 on-call support coverage
  •     In addition to Data Acquisition Technologist skills, the Data Acquisition Specialist contributes to the overall success of Data Acquisition team objectives through support/design/deployment of specialized technologies.

Specific Duties

  •     Provides technical support for all Data Acquisition hardware/software with emphasis on specialized technologies
  •     Provide support for the DataPro Data Acquisition program including initiating the deployment of new releases, developing training documents, performing software testing and verification prior to new releases, and general troubleshooting for both field operations and engineering personnel
  •     Provide support for all data communication equipment (Analog, Cellular, Satellite, signal boosting equipment), site networks, internet accounts, and corporate web mail accounts
  •     Test and commission permanent Data system installations
  •     Assist Team Lead in continued assembly and deployment of the DataPro MTL-PLC based hardware systems
  •     Gather/compile system/software user feedback  to submit to Team Lead and software developers
  •     Record/maintain inventory file of Data Acquisition components (PLCs, Electronic Flow meters, Flow Computers, Sensors/Transmitters, Wireless data transmission radios,  cabling)
  •     With direction and support from Team Lead and/or Operations management, complete intermediate sized Data Acquisition projects from initial research, procurement, to final deployment
  •     Perform presentation of in-company software and hardware systems at trade and sales shows.
  •     Perform Data Acquisition Technologist duties as required
  •     Train/supervise operations personnel in successful utilization of Data Acquisition hardware/software for the purpose of electronic measurement and reporting
  •     Train/supervise personnel in utilization of specialized technologies


  •     2 Year Post Secondary Diploma in related field (Computer Science, Instrumentation, Electronics); OR, 1 year previous experience as Data Acquisition Technologist
  •     Minimum of 4 years related oil & gas experience
  •     Previous experience with rig EDR/HMI/DataPro, TruVu
  •     Previous experience with configuration of Data Acquisition hardware components (PLCs, Electronic Flow meters, Flow Computers, Sensors/Transmitters, Networks, Wireless data transmission radios)
  •     Knowledge in satellite communication systems and electronic control strategies involving Pneumatics and Hydraulics
  •     Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  •     Specialty in CSA codes and regulations applicable to Data Acquisition electronic equipment in hazardous locations
  •     Specialty in systems AC/DC wiring technology
  •     Good understanding of oilfield operations with focus on SDS
  •     Experience with Technical writing to provide training and procedures literature in support of Data Acquisition Team responsibilities
  •     Strong organizational skills
  •     Good communications skills both verbal and written
  •     Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  •     Applicable safety tickets (H2S Alive, First Aid, Defensive Driving, WHMS, TDG) an asset
  •     Valid Class 5 Drivers License and clean drivers abstract
  •     Successful completion of a pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol test
