VMware Engineer Summary:

Signature Consultants is seeking a VMware Engineer for an opportunity in Bolingbrook, IL. The VMware Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting a growing base of VMware and future virtualized infrastructure. This position will oversee infrastructure design, hardware sizing, reporting on environments, and the creation of standards and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Create and Review/Approve technical designs, implement, and support enterprise environments
• Key member in automation development and implementation
• Communicate directly with the business and IT to develop high performing, efficient, cost effective, and operationally supportable solutions that meet the business’ complex requirements
• Identify opportunities for improvement within the environment, both technical and operational, along with plans to capture those benefits
• Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems
• Responsible for the overall server area including maintenance (patching, system upgrades, etc.), managing incidents, root cause analysis and change control processes
• Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports
• Work closely with peer IT, security, operations and business teams to deliver infrastructure services to support Enterprise applications (e.g. SAP, JDA, HANA, Manhattan) throughout the company
• Collaborate with other members of the Engineering organization to create and maintain standards and operating procedures, and provide information as appropriate to manager, project manager, and various departments within the Company
• Participate in industry forums, trade shows and seminars as appropriate; Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures to keep abreast of latest trends in industry

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience required
• Minimum 5+ years of IT experience with expert level experience in Linux support and administration, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux
• Must have a VMWare certification and VCP6.5-DCC preferred or equivalent experience
• 5+ years’ experience in design and architecture for a VMware based infrastructure environment
• Scripting skills with either Bash, Python, PowerShell, or PowerCLI are required
• Proven experience and ability to manage problem resolutions of complex or intermittent issues in a multi-vendor, integrated enterprise environment
• Skilled and comfortable with tackling complex challenges, either in leading the troubleshooting effort or advising others
• Experience with VMware security and hardening servers
• Experience in other technologies such as server hardware (Cisco UCS, HP, Nutanix), Storage (EMC/Nimble/3Par, Nutanix), RedHat (RHEL/Ansible), and Microsoft products a plus
• Demonstrates poise and professionalism while working under pressure
• Strong Communications (written and verbal), customer focus and leadership skills required
• Strong team player with proven experience and ability to collaborate internally among teams and externally among application and business units
• Flawless ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
• Extremely self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
• Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
• Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a hyper growth environment
• Ability to work from Chicago, Bolingbrook, and home
• Off-Hours support including Periodic (rotational) On-call availability
• Ability to mentor and train fellow team members
