Castle Engineering are recruiting for an experienced Engineering Manager or Engineering Supervisor to join a nationwide, successful food manufacturer for their site in Shropshire. We are recruiting an Engineering Manager or an Engineering Supervisor who is ready to take a step upwards who has experience of working in the food sector and who is able to manage multi skilled / disciplined teams of staff. This role is a days based role working Monday to Friday in the main but flexibility around these hours will be needed.

You will essentially be responsible for the management of a team of engineers in a fast paced food production business.

The role:

  • To manage / maintain / monitor and improve upon the Key Performance Indicators and standards expected.
  • Ensuring that Engineering Shift Supervisors understand the production plans for the day and the implication of this for setting up the machinery, the start up checks, preparation and ensuring that the correct stores, ink, sleeves etc are installed in the machine ready for the production run.
  • Communicate proactive planned preventative maintenance to the Shift Engineering Supervisors and ensuring they have a sound understanding of standards to be achieved.
  • Record, monitor and manage effective budgetary control and ensure reporting of this to the relevant departments and Managers.
  • Implement contingency plans to ensure issues do not re-occur and budgets are maintained.
  • Attend and report any relevant issues at daily maintenance meetings, suggesting improvements and chairing meetings to ensure all the Engineering Shift Supervisors understand the action to be taken on the issues that are raised as a consequence.
  • Attend the daily factory meeting and report any issues in a professional constructive manner, follow up any consequential action and delegate to the Engineering Shift Supervisors.
  • Organise and allocate tasks, responsibilities, reactive and proactive requirements to the Engineering Shift Supervisors.
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate current systems and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and make recommendations for change.
  • Produce / assess / monitor accurate reports required by other Managers.
  • Review and analyse reports that are submitted from Engineering Shift Supervisors and suggest improvements for increasing effectiveness and efficiency
  • Understanding departmental constraints and using own initiative to take corrective action where necessary.
  • To effectively manage and monitor your team, assessing individual and group performance and efficiency's.
  • Responsible for the training and development of Shift Supervisors to meet with the demands of the business ensuring that high quality and service levels are maintained, profitability and productivity is increased and waste / cost is minimised.
  • Managing and controlling problems with machinery, team members and resources, ensuring correct working procedures and polices are followed.
  • Liaising with the appropriate supporting departments: Human Resources, Training, QA and Health and Safety to ensure that employee and product issues are dealt with correctly and efficiently.
  • Managing / assessing and monitoring departmental manning levels, using initiative to take the appropriate action for necessary change.
  • Managing and addressing issues pertaining to absenteeism / sickness / holidays and clockings, using discretion and appropriate action, adhering to company polices and procedures.
