Role accountabilities
As a BI / MI Technical Development Specialist your main responsibilities will involve:
- Maintenance of existing MI systems and the development of new ones, as necessary to support new and existing business requirements.
- Using sophisticated, bespoke models and systems (SQL Server, SSIS, Tabular Models SSAS, Power BI) to collate, model, interpret and report data
- Ensure accuracy of MI
- Identify specific enhancements to modelling techniques, using programmatic skills to develop and maintain automated reporting solutions
- Consider and refine methodologies/modelling techniques
- Deal with more complex issues and carry out detailed investigations following from specific business requests
- Act as a reference point for queries, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal customers
- Monitor systems/procedures, recommend improvements
- Standardise all reporting developments to use best practice
- Creation of regular (weekly/monthly) Senior Management and Board reporting pack
- Support compilation audit, SFA and ad hoc regulatory reports
- Identify process improvements and drive them through to implementation.
- Investigate problems, liaise with the business in order to resolve differences
- Able to effectively report up to management on deliverables, and keep management and customers informed on meeting SLAs
- Consider, evaluate and implement appropriate tools
Specify, recommend, plan and implement new quality standards ensuring adherence to procedures and guidelines
Manage smaller projects within the business area and under the guidance of their manager, develop and maintain documentation

Technical Skills
Essential
Experience using Microsoft SQL Server including:
- Query, view and stored-procedure development in Microsoft T-SQL
- One of:
- SQL Server Analysis Services – Tabular model development
- SQL Server Integration Services – Package development, maintenance and troubleshooting
- Microsoft Power BI – develop reports and dashboards
- Basic SQL Server Administration
Advanced Excel knowledge including
- Tables
- Pivot tables & Pivot Charts
- Formatting & data display
Great to have
- .NET development
- DAX and/or MDX
- Experience of Maytas, Profiler, PICs Learner Management Systems
Location: Bristol City
