VOLT Workforce Solutions is currently hiring for a Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic in Bakersfield CA . This is a Direct Hire position with great Benefits!

The heavy equipment mechanic is primarily responsible for the upkeep and maintenance and/or the shop and mine equipment. It is also the heavy equipment mechanics responsibility to fix any equipment that breaks down.

Job Description

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic repairs and adjusts hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and load packers on dump trucks. Inspects repairs and adjusts diesel power units, hydraulic systems, injection valves and systems, mold boards and scarifies on graders. Must also inspect, adjust and repair gasoline power units. Will be responsible for installs, replacements or adjustments to filters, belt or similar object to maintain equipment.

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic must have the ability to diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment. They also need to be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in the English language, and complete forms to record or report information in standard format as specified by the form. Expected to be efficient when it comes to reading, understanding and applying information from charts, graphs and manuals. Must be proficient in in Microsoft Office Programs especially Excel and Word.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills

  • The Heavy Equipment Mechanic must have skills in the care and use of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work. Skills must also include the use of automotive serving equipment such as A/C recycler, hydraulic jack, or emission analyzer.
  • Must have at least 3 years’ experience as a skilled automotive mechanic, including some experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy-duty construction or firefighting equipment, and diesel engines. Apprenticeship work may qualify.
  • Required to have some welding knowledge as well as experience in the field.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Must know hazards of his job and it trained in safety precautions of the trade.
  • Required to work in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time, capable of lifting arms above should level to install and remove parts on the equipment.
  • Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly over time to check tires or make any repairs.
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs and carry it for a distance, in a safe manner and with the proper safety equipment.

Position Detail

This is a Non-Exempt Hourly position. $20+/hour

Includes Employer paid benefits (Medical, Dental, and Vision, Life Insurance and Company Sponsored 401K with 4% match)

2 weeks accrued vacation & 8 paid sick days

Schedule is 4/10's work week, sometimes 5/10's
