7257 Senior Database Developer/Administrator

Job Description:


The primary responsibilities for this position is to design, document, implement, and maintain the database architecture in support of the application development and QA processes. This person is ultimately responsible for the database design and data flow of the project as well as ensuring compliance to data standards. This position is responsible for performing assigned tasks in the areas of database modeling and technical design, performance monitoring, data lifecycle management, capacity planning, and database performance tuning. The position will provide operational support for development, test and production environments. Secondarily this position is expected to help develop and maintain database administration procedures and operations to achieve optimum database availability and collaborate with other DBA’s to provide the best quality product. Overall the person in this position is expected to demonstrate proficiency in database design, troubleshooting, leadership, and customer service.
Responsibilities
• Contribute to the development of technical design decisions involving the database.
• Work collaboratively with Application Architects, Project Managers, and Business Owners to develop the database model and design
• Evaluate new database technologies and data loading mechanisms
• Develop and implement new database and data loading patterns
• Proactively work on identifying and addressing DB/application performance issues
• Contributes to system development and deployment activities to ensure that data base systems management concerns are addressed
• Adheres to departmental and organizational standards and processes
• Provides input to strategic IT goals, objectives, tools, methodologies, and infrastructure
• Maintains accurate and up-to-date knowledge of requirements for maximizing database potential (performance)
• Work independently and proactively in a rapidly changing team environment
• Evaluates and solicits feedback on processes and procedures to identify potential areas for improvement
• Coordinates activities with supervisor and other DBA’s
• Assist the Architects and Project Managers in the development of full life cycle documentation and documents all activities
• Takes ownership of assigned responsibilities and follows through to effective solution
• Work closely with the Infrastructure, Operations, and SW Engineering staffs as needed to help troubleshoot and maintain production databases and to resolve production outages.
• Communicate complex technical information in a timely, concise and coherent manner.
• Maintain an in depth understanding of industry trends and evolving technology.

Required Skills:*
Related Skills & Other Requirements:
• 5-7+ years of experience in the design and development of Oracle relational database management systems
• Experience with data warehousing and business intelligence environments
• Expertise in relational and dimensional data modeling and database design
• Experience in logical database modeling and physical database design
• Experience with migrating on-premise databases to Cloud based databases
• Experience with developing Cloud based databases
• Experience with identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks
• Familiarity with AWS Redshift, Postgres, MemSQL, and other newer database technologies
• Familiarity with data loading technologies like Informatica, SPARK, SQOOP etc.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills
• Proficiency with SQL/PLSQL
• Strong customer service orientation
• Strong problem solving and analytic skills
• Strong skills supporting n-tiered applications, built onto the Oracle database platform
• Knowledge of distributed databases and partitioning
• Knowledge of scalable data architectures
• Knowledge and understanding of the Rational Unified Process (RUP) for software development.
• Ability to support multiple concurrent projects
• Ability to provide off hours and weekend support as necessary
• Generally familiar with database programming and analysis, systems develop methodologies, specifically Java, XML and web services
• Current Oracle DBA Certification is desirable

Preferred Skills:*
This is a database developer/Admin position and NOT a PROD DBA position. This person needs to be able to develop database code and should be familiar with Java/Python, AWS space, MemSQL or similar.

Education/Certifications:*
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent preferred. Professional training and/or certification using Oracle tools and technologies desired. Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience. Several years of experience year’s experience in the analysis, design, and development of Oracle 9i databases.
