The Manager, Database Management is typically responsible for 1-2 business lines made up of teams and/or 1-2 types of technologies. In addition to management responsibilities, this role is also responsible for direct database development/administration. Implement strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Work with senior level management to ensure plans are integrated with broader corporate and/or functional strategies, budgets, schedules and plans. Influence internal leadership on decisions relating to critical priorities and schedules. Has regular contact with senior level management inside and outside the company; contacts involve clarification or modification of projects, plans, operational decisions, and/or scheduling requirements.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Functional/Organizational Management :
  • Manage a team(s) of Oracle Database Administrators/ Architects to architect and design enterprise database systems. Coach, train and mentor direct reports, providing opportunities for employee development. Has full performance management responsibilities creating specific goals and objectives with staff to ensure that team goals and objectives are met. Delegate assignments to subordinate staff. Staff may be in multiple locations (domestic and/or international). Responsible for coordinating efforts, achieving goals, and meeting staffing and schedule requirements across locations.

Process & Delivery Management:
  • Authorize projects, approve designs, and provide cost analysis for projects, set priorities, administer budgets. Participate in long-range planning. Responsible for ensuring that overall budgets, schedules, performance standards, and best practices are attained. Participate in more critical day-to day operational issues, remove barriers for team, and resolve complex issues.

Technology Management & Development :
  • Apply advanced technical expertise to provide input to both tactical and strategic technology direction and establish standards and best practices. At this level the focus begins to shift to strategic direction with a wider scope of influence over infrastructure design and architecture. Work with peers to align processes and achieve objectives. Responsible for the database administration and development processes and makes technical recommendations to senior management. Guide staff and resolve cross functional issues. Interact with vendors to resolve issues, provide training opportunities, and explore advanced technology from vendors.

Database Administration/Development :

  • Design, implement, and maintain complex databases which may include access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation and statistical methods. Consult with and advise developers and management, research options and technologies, make recommendations for improvements and enhancements. May do database development.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
  • A Master's degree in related IT Field and/or certification in related DBMS technology is a plus

Experience
  • Three years of demonstrated leadership experience in a management/project management role
  • Eight years of hands-on Oracle RDBMS experience and other RDBMS platforms
Knowledge/Skills
  • Demonstrated successful track record of design, development, and completion of critical, complex projects in more than one area of functional expertise
  • Experience setting procedures, standards, and documentation
  • Experience with project management, with solid understanding of milestones, deliverables and resource scheduling
  • Demonstrated people management skills including leadership development, ability to delegate
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively influence others without direct authority
  • Demonstrated success of establishing, managing, and maintaining effective working relationships at the peer/business unit/senior management level, internal and external to an organization
  • Oracle 10G and 11G RAC on UNIX/Linux platforms
  • Very good understanding of SAN, NAS storage & Clustering technologies
  • Administering and enforcing database and user security policies and standards including compliance with SOX regulations, various federal and state consumer privacy regulations
