Job Duties: Responsible for systems and storage administration, configuration, troubleshooting, upgrades and support in heterogeneous server environments running under various operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle (Sun Solaris), Microsoft Windows and VMware vSphere, SAN fabric and storage arrays). Identification and resolution of hardware, software or architectural issues in any of the servers and storage systems supporting the salesforce.com production instances and/or hosts, especially those that directly impact the production salesforce.com service. Analyze system errors or anomalies and specific server/storage performance issues and/or error messages. Formulate and implement monitoring, policies, procedures and standards relating to server and storage management. Perform infrastructure design and implementations, performance analysis and optimization, systems monitoring and problem resolution, upgrade planning and implementation, process creation and documentation. Complete day-to-day systems administration activities, such as user administration, disk management, package install, patch management, storage management, NFS/DNS administration and disaster recovery/fail-over exercises. Serve as technical expert on infrastructure projects pertaining to virtualization, storage and systems management.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Technology, related Engineering disciplines, Information Systems/Technology, or related field (or foreign equivalent), plus five (5) years of experience in the job offered, or as a System Administrator, Network Engineer, or related occupation. In the alternative, we will accept a Master’s degree in Computer Science/Technology, related Engineering disciplines, Information Systems/Technology, or related field (or foreign equivalent), plus three (3) years of experience in the job offered, or as a System Administrator, Network Engineer, or related occupation.

Special Requirements: In depth knowledge and experience in Building and configuring major Internet host/network services, including Web (Apache, HTTP, SSL, etc.), Mail (SendMail, etc.), DNS (Bind), NFS, NIS/NIS+ and Java; Installation and configuration for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle (Sun Solaris) Operating Systems; Shell/Perl scripts for Automation and Monitoring and using Secure Shell (SSH); Managing large (500+ servers) environments in a global organization; VMware Virtualization products (ESX Servers, VMotion, Distributed Resource Scheduling, etc.); Veritas NetBackup; Storage Area Network (SAN) fabric and storage arrays; Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP); Syslog; User Authentication and Authorization, Kickstart/Jumpstart Installations and Scheduling.
