Working under minimal supervision, the Systems Engineer Senior is responsible for the global understanding of in house systems and for making recommendations on technology adoption. This is achieved by synthesizing skills across several technical disciplines including server architecture, network principles, performance tuning, capacity planning, application development and build automation. Level of work assigned is complex and broad in scope. The System Engineer Senior will apply technical expertise and a strong methodical approach to identifying system problems and providing solutions as they work closely with various cross-functional teams. Acts as a technical lead on IT projects and takes a broad view of and approach to architecture, procedures and standards. This position also takes an active mentoring role, and provides technical direction and leadership to less experienced team members.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent strongly preferred

Experience
  • Seven to ten years of experience in systems design, tuning, deployment, troubleshooting and management
  • Seven to ten years of experience with Linux and/or Solaris
  • Three to five years of windows 2003/2008 experience
  • Three to five years of advanced experience with either Weblogic or JBoss
  • Three to five years of experience with Apache and Tomcat administration
  • One to two years of experience with IIS administration
  • One to two years as a technical lead/team lead (preferred)

Knowledge/Skills
  • Strong understanding of Middle-tier systems software including Weblogic, JBoss, Tomcat, IIS
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems including Windows 2003/2008 and Solaris, Redhat or SuSe
  • Firm understanding of virtualization technologies including VMWare and XEN
  • Working knowledge of application profiling tools such JProbe, YourKit
  • Working knowledge of Java, J2EE applications and web services
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Perl, Python, Powershell, WMI, Ant, Maven or shell scripting
  • Proven experience automating processes and runbooks
  • Understanding of networking principles including OSI Model, TCP/IP, DNS, Load balancing,clustering and firewalls
  • Understanding of SAN, NAS, NFS, CIFS technologies
  • Understanding of PL/SQL
  • Must possess excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong ability to assess complex situations, set priorities and implement action plans
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of industry advancements and standards
  • Must be able to mentor team members
  • Must be able to work individually or in a team environment
  • Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate with management, staff and customers as well as demonstrate sound judgment and reasoning skills
  • First understanding of DNS architecture and administration
