Hatch Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Project Manager with expertise in pipelines to join our growing Calgary office. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing, executing and coordinating pipeline projects to ensure completion on time and within budget. Senior Project Managers are also responsible for business development activities with existing clients.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Directing, controlling and managing through nominated staff all aspects of the project including in-house engineering, procurement, construction, interfaces, administration functions and all external work undertaken by contractors and consultants throughout the design, supply, construction and commissioning phases of the projects;
  • Assuming responsibility for establishing and periodically reviewing time-and-hour budgets and meeting those budgets on the projects he or she personally manages;
  • Providing input to the preparation of the project implementation schedule, in particular the field activities and associated interfaces;
  • Periodically reviewing project schedule and progress on the projects under his or her management;
  • Coordinating the development of a project budget derived from the initial or bid budget and a corresponding project implementation schedule;
  • Preparing or directing preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project;
  • Ensuring the estimate is complete, is updated and maintained and the client is aware at all times of the forecast final cost;
  • Authorize all commitments of expenditure on the project and approve payment of invoices;
  • Maintaining liaison with individuals outside the firm (partners, sub-consultants, Joint Ventures);
  • Maintaining continued relationship with client after project is finished to assure securing future work the client may have;

Education, Qualifications, skills and experience for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university;
  • Master's degree would be considered an asset;
  • 20 or more years of experience in the engineering and delivery of pipeline projects;
  • 12 or more years of experience as a project manager for pipeline projects in Canada;
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) status in Alberta, or eligibility for registration;
  • Track record of successful delivery of pipeline projects from feasibility, execution through to commissioning is required for this role;
  • Demonstrated experience in development of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), scheduling and schedule analysis, cost estimating and cost control, budget development, reporting, and record/document control;
  • Advanced knowledge of cost engineering and scheduling concepts;
  • Excellent supervisory and communication skills, both written and verbal are required for this role;
  • Strong client management, leadership, interpersonal, communication, and technical skills are required;
  • Ability to work with a manage a diverse project team and focus this team on client deliverables;
  • Ability to oversee the work of others and mentor junior and intermediate staff
