Hatch Mott MacDonald is seeking a Project Manager with expertise in pipelines to join our growing Calgary office. Working under the direction of the Senior Project Manager, the successful candidate will assist in the organization, execution and coordination of pipeline projects to ensure that they are completed on time and within budget.

Reporting to the Prairie Region Manager Manager as well as the relevant Senior Project Manager, the successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Assisting in directing, controlling and managing through nominated staff all aspects of the project including in-house engineering, procurement, construction, interfaces, administration functions and all external work undertaken by contractors and consultants throughout the design, supply, construction and commissioning phases of the projects;
  • Assuming responsibility for establishing and periodically reviewing time-and-hour budgets and meeting those budgets on the projects he or she personally manages;
  • Providing input to the preparation of the project implementation schedule, in particular the field activities and associated interfaces;
  • Periodically reviewing project schedule and progress on the projects under his or her management;
  • Preparing or directing preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project;
  • Assisting in ensuring the estimate to complete is updated and maintained and the client is aware at all times of the forecast final cost;
  • Authorizing all commitments of expenditure on the project and approve payment of invoices;
  • Maintaining liaison with individuals outside the firm (partners, sub-consultants, Joint Ventures);
  • Assisting in maintaining continued relationships with client after project is finished to assure securing future work the client may have;

Education, Qualifications, skills and experience for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university;
  • Master's degree would be considered an asset;
  • 15 or more years of experience in the engineering and delivery of pipeline projects;
  • 8 or more years of experience as a project manager for pipeline projects in Canada;
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) status in Alberta, or eligibility for registration;
  • Demonstrated history of successful delivery of pipeline projects of varying sizes and complexity from feasibility, execution through to commissioning is required for this role;
  • Demonstrated experience in development of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), scheduling and schedule analysis, cost estimating and cost control, budget development, reporting, and record/document control;
  • Strong experience in high level reporting skills in both a project and corporate context;
  • Advanced knowledge of cost engineering and scheduling concepts;
  • Excellent supervisory and communication skills, both written and verbal are required for this role;
  • Strong client management, leadership, interpersonal, communication, and technical skills are required;
  • Ability to work with a manage a diverse project team and focus this team on client deliverables;
  • Ability to oversee the work of others and mentor junior and intermediate staff
