Prisoner Escort and Custody Services
Serco`s Prisoner Escort and Custody Services (PECS) makes a critical contribution to the Criminal Justice System by ensuring the safe and secure transport of detained persons between courts and custodial establishments and ensuring that they are accompanied within the courts. Our aim is to create a working environment which supports and values diversity, integrity, trust and openness.

About the Role

As a Prisoner Custody Officer you will be responsible for the safe and secure supervision and management of detained persons as they are being transported and escorted, and to ensure that they are treated with respect and dignity. Your actions can make a really positive difference to a detained person.

The role can go from one extreme to the other, with the fast paced escorting during transportation to the silent escorting during trials in court. This role is not based in a prison environment and involves shift work as the courts operate six days a week from Monday to Saturday.

About You

You will be able to evidence considerable experience of dealing with members of the public in pressurised, challenging and demanding situations, or have substantial experience as a supervisor or team leader.  You will be a team player who is able to demonstrate resilience, integrity and professionalism at all times.

- Minimum level 2 Key Skills (or equivalent) English and Maths

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Decision making skills and the ability to cope with pressure

- Assertiveness and the ability to exercise authority

Due to the nature of this role it is important that you have a level of fitness that would allow you to pass various mandatory training courses including Control and Restraint. You will be working various shifts depending on the assignment and will need to available up until midnight on occasions. You must also be able to travel to and work in Croydon.

Additional Information

This role is exempt from the rehabilitation of offenders and therefore all candidates will be required to undergo screening for spent and unspent convictions.

The Initial training is a 6 week course and due to the intensive training 100% attendance is required.
