Research Scientist (ENG-13-00010) Wilmington, Massachusetts

Our Client in our Wilmington, MA facility invites applicants for a Research Scientist position within the CBRNE Research and Development group.  This individual will be responsible for conducting research on next generation trace detection systems based on both Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) platforms.

  •     Conducts novel research as directed to accomplish improvements in current and future trace detection instrumentation
  •     Provides innovative solutions to complex problems surrounding the trace detection of a variety of target analytes
  •     Interfaces with customer organizations and represents the company effectively and professionally
  •     Functions in a team setting efficiently with other R&D team members
  •     Able to balance workload over several research projects simultaneously
  •     May work as a project leader for a given task, or as a mentor to other members of the R&D team
  •     Supports requests for technical assistance from fielded systems
  •     Produces technical reports and completes tasks delegated by manager
  •     Be available after hours for emergencies   


Qualifications and Requirements

  •     Must have a Ph.D. in chemistry/physics
  •     Demonstrate technical expertise with various trace detection techniques such as IMS/DMS and MS (multiple variants). 5+ years of laboratory experience with such instrumentation is required.
  •     Experience in designing and building custom IMS and/or MS systems is strongly desired
  •     Familiarity and implementation with a range of ionization sources commonly used in trace detection systems.
  •     Strong communication skills – both written and oral as demonstrated through a proven track record of peer reviewed publications, presentations at conferences, and patents


Eligibility Requirements

  •     Must be 18 years or older
  •     Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process
  •     Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process
  •     Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
  •     Must be willing to engage in periodic travel (up to 20%)
  •     Must be eligible to apply for a US Security Clearance


Desired Characteristics

  •     High level of experience with trace detection of homeland security applicable compounds
  •     Significant level of experience with analytical instrumentation
  •     Highly motivated researcher with strong work ethic able to work independently or in teams
  •     Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
