 We are recruiting for an experienced Purchasing Engineer for our prestigious client based in Birmingham.

The ideal Purchasing Engineer will have:

  • Experience within manufacturing or the automotive industry
  • Be Fully or partially CIPS qualified
  • Business or Engineering Degree
  • Experience of reading technical drawings
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing process and automotive methodology
  • Experience of TPS, JIT and 5s (beneficial) 
  • Proven experience of negotiation

The Purchasing Engineer will be responsible for defined purchasing activities in line with established purchasing principles at group level, working closely with the centralised purchasing function in Europe to achieve maximum benefit from suppliers.  Duties will include:

  • Manage new projects within the defined timescales and targets.
  • Estimate purchasing costs and collect indicative costing information from suppliers, to support new business enquiries.
  • Build and manage relationships with new and existing suppliers.
  • Define a strategy to monitor supplier performance to cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • Manage the supplier database, monitoring and managing under performing suppliers.
  • Negotiate and agree prices with suppliers.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity.
  • Prepare letter of intent, tooling orders, purchase orders and commitment to cost reduction activity.
  • Organise and control material prototypes.
  • Monitor market trends in commodity costs and report.
  • Develop and improve the risk management process relating to suppliers in financial and environmental.

Travel worldwide will be required to see suppliers as necessary – therefore flexibility and commitment is required.

The Package:

  • Salary 25-35.5K
  • Hours Monday to Thursday 8.30 – 5pm Friday 8.30-4pm (can be flexibility to start 7.30 or 8am finishing at 4pm some days)
