Salary: GBP300 - GBP350 per day

JOB PURPOSE
The Aircraft Structures Engineer is a structural specialist, with skills and knowledge beyond those expected of maintenance personnel and who is responsible for advising the RSAF on all structural design matters for aircraft structural repairs and other aircraft structural design work relating to SBDCP aircraft and operating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He will also provide Engineering Assistance to all RSAF Fast Jet and Flying Training bases on a wide variety of non strutures related, aircraft and associated equipment Engineering and Policy matters within his capabililty, as directed by the Officer Commanding AES KAAB and his staff. 
 
RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION
Qualifications:
• Honours Degree in a Structures related discipline (Aeronautical, Mechanical, etc.) is essential.
• Have completed a recognized course in aircraft engineering or related engineering discipline at a military or civilian school of technical training, and / or have completed an appropriate apprenticeship.
Relevant Experience:
• At least 5 yrs experience as an aircraft Design Engineer with at least 2 yrs spent on at least one of the SBDCP aircraft (Hawk / Tornado) or Typhoon.
• Self-motivated with the ability to analyse problems and formulate solutions to new issues that are outside the scope of the T.O.’s., but which respect the design philosophy of the aircraft type.
• Ability to be able to produce high quality letters and reports using the Microsoft Office suite of programmes.
• Ability to be able to produce high quality drawings, models and repair instructions for technicians to follow in the repair of aircraft and A.G.E. using the AutoCAD drawing package or similar. 
 
 
 JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
1) Ensure that methods and data used for repairs completed in Kingdom are compatible with those necessary to maintain the structural integrity of the aircraft and respect the standard procedures of the Design Authority.
2) Identify those aircraft repairs that need referral to the Design Authority and cannot be dealt with in-Kingdom and ensure liaison between the Design Authority and RSAF Aeronautical Engineering staff in progressing repair work.
3) Undertake damage assessments on behalf of the RSAF in order to establish the extent of repair action required.
4) Provide advice and assistance during the embodiment of aircraft and A.G.E. structural repairs and modifications.
5) Provide structural engineering assistance to aircraft Incident and Accident investigations.
6) Investigate and make recommendations on inspection schedules / maintenance requirements etc. for recurring structural problems.
7) Prepare and draft briefs for the RSAF to be presented to MODSAP, the Prime Contractor and vendors at formal and informal meetings such as the Tornado Platform Integrity Working Group (PIWG) and the Joint Obsolescence and Supportability Working Group (JOSWG).
8) Provide RSAF Officer structural familiarisation training both informally and in a formal classroom situation including the preparation and delivery of instruction that will ultimately lead to the award of a certificate of completion for the AES Engineers involved. 
 
WORK DIRECTION
1) Performance in the job is appraised on behalf of BAE Systems, by the Principal Engineer, in consultation with the RSAF AES Commander.
2) This is a direct manning position with tasks being directed by the Aeronautical Engineering Squadron Commander, his designated RSAF Officer, the Principal Engineer, or the Chief Engineers (Tornado/Training Aircraft). All work is reviewed on a job-by-job basis by the designated RSAF Officer and signed for by the AES Commander prior to issue.
3) Performance is reviewed on a continuous basis. 
 
DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY
The Job Holder will be expected to make decisions relating to all structural repairs not affecting primary structure for all repairs to SBDCP aircraft produced in kingdom. For primary structure repairs, these are to be done in conjunction with the appropriate aircraft Design Authority. In some instances he may advise of the necessity to call on the full manning and computer resources of the BAE Systems Stress and Design Offices.
• He will also be responsible for assessing the extent of damage sustained in an accident or incident resulting in structural damage and for identifying any checks required in the search for hidden damage.
• The Job Holder will preferabily have an understanding of RSAF Aircraft Engineering Maintenance activities, procedures and policies which will enable him to provide accurate and timely advice to the AES Commander on a wide variety of issues.
