Salary: GBP48 - GBP48 per hour + Ltd

 Position Description

To help manage and lead a team of weight engineers. Be first point of contact for lightship weight and CoG estimation, monitoring of weight and CoG consumption against budget and management of margins. Be able to identify weight consumption threats and opportunities for weigh reduction

 

Core Duties

Assist in the management of tasks identified in the Weights Team QLA in accordance with the agreed schedules & budgets and ensure that the production of technical deliverables from the Weights Team meet the required quality and maturity.

Develop and maintain new metrics that show clearly and simply consumption of weight against budgets, consumption of margin, weight maturity, impact of change and highlight unauthorised weight growth.

Identify and investigate new weight threats and opportunities and propose actions to manage.

Investigate and report on impact of engineering changes on weight and CoG.

Prepare for and support Design Reviews and other regular technical reviews and ensure the necessary evidence and documentation is in place.

Attend test weighing of procured equipment, structural units and manufactured items at supplier’s premises or within the shipyard and review Test Weighing Certificates provided by suppliers.

 

Functional Knowledge

A wide knowledge of weight and CoG calculation and management of structure, systems and outfit; naval ship design and construction; and the production of weight reports to SME level.

Possesses good knowledge of all aspects within his/her discipline.

Able to perform analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements based on experience.

Has sufficient breadth of knowledge of warship design and the sound judgement needed to be able make correct trade-off decisions

 

Business Expertise

2 Years’ experience in engineering or a defence or related industry

Understanding of LCM

 

Qualifications

Typically degree qualified (not essential), likely to be in a technology, engineering or science related discipline

Working towards the requirements for registration as Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council.
