CAD Design Engineer - Automotive (15249456/001) Cambridge, England

An opportunity exists within the Hybrid and Electronic System Team for a Mechanical CAD Designer - Hybrid Electronics Systems to deliver on-going client technology projects.

Job Duties:
To provide CAD and mechanical design support for the HES engineering team

• To create mechanical concepts and schemes for the packaging of electronic and electrical components for use in hybrid vehicle, automotive battery related systems and electrical machine design.
• To produce detail drawings of components suitable for volume and prototype production.
• To produce assembly documentation to support prototype and production builds (e.g. Bill of Materials and Process Assembly Instructions).
• Support the development of future products and services

Required Qualifications and Experience:
The successful applicant will be qualified with a minimum of a HND in a mechanically based discipline with experience of using CAD in the development of mechanical components within an electro–mechanical environment.

In order to be successful you will need to seek innovative solutions while working within tight timescales, be able to work well within multi-disciplinary project teams, and be a self-starter with the determination to deliver to clear objectives.

Experience in the Automotive industry is preferable but not essential and consideration will be given to candidates from alternative industries providing some of the following key experiences can be demonstrated.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

• HND Mechanical / Production engineering
• Experienced user of CATIA V5, Creo or NX CAD systems
• Proficient in the creation of 3D parametric models and associated 2D drawings.
• Conversant with Windchill PDM system or similar systems.
• Experience of Engineering Change Control (ECN) procedures and documentation
• Knowledge of BS8888, geometric tolerancing and tolerance stack analysis
• Component design experience using high volume manufacturing methods, such as sheet metal pressing, sand and die casting, plastic injection moulding
• Component design experience using low volume manufacturing methods, CNC machining and rapid prototype components
• Preparation of design concepts and inputs to proposals

Other useful and relevant experience that would be considerable as beneficial

• Knowledge of electrical machine / rotating component design.
• Experience in DFMEA assessment
• Design of composite structures, electronic PCB packaging outline and packaging, electronic enclosures, wiring harness and bus bar routing
• Expertise in the use of complex solid and surface modelling within the relevant 3D CAD package
• Knowledge of designing for high current and high voltage, creepage and clearance
• Knowledge or experience of Teamcenter or Smarteam
