The Role
An opportunity exists within the Hybrid and Electronic System Team for a Mechanical Design Engineer - Hybrid Electronics Systems to deliver on-going client technology projects.

Job Duties:
To deliver technical content of client projects:

• To create mechanical concepts and schemes for the packaging of electronic and electrical components for use in hybrid vehicle and automotive battery related systems.
• To produce detail drawings of components suitable for prototype and volume production, to check and approve drawings of junior engineers.
• Undertake tolerance analysis of assemblies.
• To produce assembly documentation to support prototype and production builds (e.g. Bill of Materials and Process Assembly Instructions).
• To oversee the initial build of prototypes and products.
• Liaise with customers to agree mechanical interface details.
• Liaise and manage suppliers/subcontractors to agree the specification of purchased components and delivery requirements for the project.
• To work on the mechanical integration of hybrid systems from prototype through to full series production on client hybrid and electric vehicle projects
• Interface directly with clients on technical issues, often working as part of the client engineering team at the client site or any one of the business offices.
• To support lead engineers in the development of mechanical systems and components particularly relating to electronics and hybrid vehicle battery systems
• Work to client quality procedures and validation processes
• Support the development of future products and services

Required Qualifications and Experience:
The successful applicant will ideally be a degree qualified Mechanical Designer with demonstrable experience and a proven track record of developing electrical / electronic components and assemblies within the Automotive or similar industries. Experience in the Automotive industry is preferable but not essential. In order to be successful you will need to seek innovative solutions while working within tight timescales, be able to work well within multi-disciplinary project teams, and be a self-starter with the determination to deliver to clear objectives.

• Experience user of CATIA V5, Creo or NX CAD systems
• Conversant with Windchill PDM system or similar systems.
• Managing Engineering Change Control (ECN) procedures and documentation
• Component design experience using high volume manufacturing methods, such as sheet metal pressing, sand and die casting, plastic injection moulding
• Knowledge of designing for high current and high voltage (12 to 1200Vdc) power systems, (connectors, bus bars, cables, contactors & fusing), electronic PCB outline and packaging, wiring harness routing.
• Experience of electrical component integration (up to 600V), design & development on low volume or high volume products, particularly HV battery systems and sub systems in a tier 1 or OEM environment
• Component design experience using low volume manufacturing methods, CNC machining and rapid prototype components
• Preparation of design concepts and inputs to proposals
• An understanding of project delivery within a systems engineering environment
• Good interpersonal and customer facing skills
• Experience in DFMEA writing and assessment
• Familiar with product delivery process from requirements capture through to design validation of mechanical parts and hybrid and electric vehicle battery systems
