Nomura are currently looking for a Netbackup Administrator on a contract basis to join the infrastructure technology team. This role involves project work, involving upgrades, expansions, decommissioning of legacy systems.

Department Description:

The European Platform Operations group administer in excess of 7200 servers consisting of a mixture of Windows, Linux and Solaris servers on both physical and Virtual (VMWare) infrastructure and are responsible for ensuring that all servers are backed up regularly in accordance with local regulations.

In addition to the European staff members, there is a central team based in Mumbai who are also responsible for backups.

The backup software used in Europe is Netbackup.

Role Description:

The role is for a Netbackup administrator to assist with carrying out the daily backup administration tasks to ensure that all backups run as scheduled.

From time to time there will be the requirement to undertake some project related work where necessary.

As well as operational and project tasks the administrator will assist with developing reports to help monitor and report on the status of the backup environment.

The backup administrator will be based in London and will work closely with colleagues from that region and with the team in Mumbai.

Role / Principal Accountabilities:

  • Day to day operational administration tasks to ensure backups are occurring and failures are being identified and addressed.
  • Create and provide report for backups and related activities and tasks
  • Create and update documentation for backup environments the documents would include standard operating procedures, solutions, knowledge base articles and applicable project documentation.
  • Capacity management for the backup environment.
  • Project tasks to upgrade / enhance all backup environments as required.
  • Project tasks to decommission legacy backup infrastructure and refresh.
  • Assist the branch offices on their upgrades projects
  • Provide level 2 or 3 support on :
  • Working with local server administration teams to address and resolve any backup related issues
  • Working to optimise backup infrastructure with NDMP, disks, software and different OS types
  • Perform diagnosis, troubleshoot and conduct root-cause analysis for any issues escalated on the backup platforms.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Experience of managing backups in a busy environment (experience gained in a financial industry is preferable)
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage own workloads
  • Good analytical skills to assist troubleshooting issues.
  • High level of experience in storage and backup related jobs
  • Proven experience in a design and/or consulting capacity 
  • Current & valid product certifications in technologies listed below would be a major advantage

Technologies/Knowledge 

  • Expert knowledge on backup software technologies, Netbackup preferred.
  • Expert knowledge on storage hardware (EMC/Data Domains, NetApp, HNAS)
  • Preferred knowledge on SAN fabric technologies. Brocade and cisco nexus is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of overall backup and storage design and related issues (disks, audit compliance issues)
  • Strong knowledge of an array of tape based backup hardware
  • Strong knowledge of Scripting in Perl
  • Some Linux (RHel 6.5) administration skills useful and Solaris 10
  • Understanding of Windows OS useful
  • Ability to communicate (Written and Oral) effectively to both technical and non-technical staff.

 

Professional/Cognitive Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication in English is a must. Strong presentation skills are considered an asset
  • Strong and proven troubleshooting ability in a large scale, fast-paced operations environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time to support multiple high-priority objectives simultaneously
  • Ability to make timely and sound decisions under conditions of uncertainty and/or stress
  • Ability to manage expectations, keeping all stakeholders informed about projects and/or incidents
  • Ability to adjust plans to respond to changing business priorities

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team sharing ideas and gaining consensus on a proper solution
  • Effective and personable communication with stakeholders and vendors to achieve desired results
  • Desire and drive to attain results and closure on issues even if faced with resistance and reluctance
