Freelance Tutors

Freelance Tutors (Tutors/WM) Stafford, England

Salary: GBP20 - GBP21 per hour + Including Statutory Holiday Pay
The media recently claimed that primary and secondary school teachers work in excess of 60 hours per week with planning and marking spilling over into their home life. Add to this the increased financial burden of only being restricted to holidays in term time, then throw into the mix the ever increasing and unmanageable class sizes and you begin to understand why there is a “teacher crisis”.

I am calling upon those fed-up teachers! Have you ever considered offender learning?

Yes, you will face challenging behaviour and disaffected learners with low self-esteem and self-belief, but how satisfying will it be at the end of the day knowing you have made a real difference to someone’s life. Knowing that you have contributed to someone turning their life around and saying I can do this…. and as a bonus you have small classes of on average between 7-12 learners; no marking to take home and the ability to take holidays any time of the year………….

I am currently recruiting for sessional Offender Learning Lecturers for adhoc cover across the West Midlands (10 prisons from HMP Stafford to HMP Hewell in Redditch) in the following specialisms:
- Functional Skills – Maths English and ICT
- Construction – Carpentry, Bricklaying, Painting and Decorating and Plastering
- Industrial Cleaning
- Motor Vehicles
- Art
- Business

Suitable candidates will meet the following criteria:
• A minimum of a Level 3 qualification in subject specialism.
• Experience of teaching any of the above subjects in a classroom setting.
• Competent IT skills for maintaining and updating student portfolios.
• Own transport – due to the location of the prisons.

In return we can offer you the following:
• £20.17 per hour (including statutory holiday pay)
• Flexibility to take holidays throughout the year without the usual term time restriction
• Down time within the prison for planning (no marking is completed at home)
• Education runs all year and not termly so there is increased earning potential for sessional and on-going staff
• Opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD)
• Small manageable class sizes on average of between 7 and 12 learners
• Education for learners is a privilege; those who take it for granted lose the right

If successful, you will need to go through Prison Security Clearance, this procedure takes approximately 2 – 4 weeks. You will also be required to have a fully enhanced DBS.
