Highways Maintenance Trainer

Highways Maintenance Trainer (streetshigh) Newmarket, England

Salary: GBP23073.7 - GBP28213 per annum + benefits
Re-offending currently costs the economy between £9.5 and £13 billion a year on average. With this in mind and prison education being at the heart of the current reforms, there has never been a better time to think about become an Offender Learning Lecturer.

Statistics show that education and training drastically reduces an individuals' likelihood of re-offending on release. Not only does upskilling provide more opportunities to gain employment but it increases self-esteem and self-worth.

Are you supportive, understanding and inspirational? If so then you could educate offenders and play a part in the reduction of re-offending!

Amidst the shakeup of the prison system under the recommendations set out by Dame Sally Coates, a number of prison establishments are looking to take a new innovative approach to teaching. One such prison is HMP High Point in Newmarket; and is looking for a Highways Maintenance Trainer that can not only pass on their industry knowledge but also inspire a group of people with little or no self confidence. The prison will consider someone with industry experience looking to move into training/teaching providing they are happy to study towards their PTLLS qualification.

These men have already been judged by the law and are serving their punishment. Could you be non-judgmental and help those looking for a second chance to achieve their goals and better themselves ready for a new start? If so then we would love to hear from you.

In return we can offer you the following:

- A salary of up to £28,313 (subject to qualifications and experience)
- 36 days holiday
- Excellent pension scheme
- Flexibility to take holidays throughout the year without the usual term time restrictions
- Down time within the prison for planning (no marking is completed at home)
- Opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD)
- Small manageable class sizes on average of between 7 and 15 learners
- Education for learners is a privilege; those who take it for granted lose the right

You will need:
- a level 3 qualification in Highways Maintenance
- a relevant teaching qualification or the willingness to undertake one
- own transport due to the location of the prison
- New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991 Supervisor
