Chief Estimator (Mechanical)

This role is specific to an accomplished specialist or generalist with a wide range of experience in estimating industrial construction projects. The Chief Mechancial Estimator will have the experience necessary to lead an estimate from inception to completion and to manage the people necessary to get that accomplished.

Key Responsibilities:

• Implementing and managing estimating services and preparation of overall project estimate along with presentation for review of upper management
• Coordinating between project management and the estimating departments, including preparing procedures and delegating responsibilities
• Handling several projects simultaneously, either independently or by providing direction to other estimating staff
• As the lead estimator on larger projects, directing and managing other estimating personnel
• During estimate reviews, determining if estimate parameters fall within accepted norms for the project estimate location and type of facility
• The ability to prepare and maintain database information for “units of measurement” to establish productivity rates for all trades based on region/location

Estimating Duties:

• Assisting in the interpretation of routine documentation, specifications, and drawings to determine material costs
• Coordinate efforts between engineering, construction and project controls to ensure alignment of the estimating effort
• Conduct initial analysis of mechanical drawings and specifications to ensure required documentation is present
• Preparing the basis of estimate
• Leading the development of total project estimate both indirect and direct with minimal direction
• Preparing routine control budgets
• Conducting and participating in department, discipline, and project reviews on estimates
• Assisting in the preparation of cost studies to support the selection of economical designs
• Solicit sub-contractor pricing and bids for mechanical trades in preparation of cost estimate for CM Projects and Lump Sum Bids
• Provide narratives for selected portions of a project cost estimate to adequately describe mechanical scope and level of quality within an estimate
• Assisting other estimators with cost research and maintenance of the estimating database
• Assisting in the preparation of estimates for trends, contract scope changes, or extra work orders
• Understanding and being able to apply the differences in estimate classes and how they are used
• Developing estimate reconciliations as required
• Defining the intent and use of the estimate based on the proposal or contract terms

Requirements:

• 4-year Engineering or Construction Management degree (preferred but not required) or equivalent technical training and related experience
• Minimum of 6 to 10-years similar industrial construction estimating experience (required)
• Knowledge of construction project practices and procedures (required)
• Experience with construction and implementation of large industrial EPC power generation and industrial construction projects (required)
• Considerable experience in conceptual estimating of large EPC power generation projects (required)
• Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, etc. (required)
• An in-depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional units (required)
• Excellent communication, both written and oral, and interpersonal skills (required)
• Demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines (required)
• Knowledge of related construction codes, standards, etc.
