In recent years My Client has developed and expanded its work in the Rail Sector, to the extent that it is one of the leading UK consultants for the design of railway infrastructure.  The current & future projects require involvement of our civils, rail infrastructure expertise to enable full life design for railway infrastructure operations resulting in the need to recruit high calibre professionals with the capability to manage and deliver the design of multi-disciplinary rail projects.

The Infrastructure Rail team provides leading services in;

-Station Development and Upgrade.
-Mechanical & Electrical Services.
-Signalling and Telecommunications/CCTV.
-Infrastructure Renewal Projects.
-Major Rail Development Projects.

Due to an ever-increasing diverse workload within the Infrastructure Rail Sector a newly created position has arisen for an Associate Director reporting directly to the Area Director, to be based in their Swindon Office.

This role will be to manage the young and specialised Bridge Assessment team and grow the Civils capability with a number of targeted recruitments bringing in complementary skills. On the back of existing commissions, the role will also require the development of work opportunities in the local Western and Wales Route market, principal clients being Network Rail and Main Contractors.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of working within a rail environment and good working knowledge of Network Rail standards. Candidates to have experience of managing multidisciplinary projects and knowledge of Rail design assurance processes. Experience of managing a team including mentoring and training of graduate and technician staff will be sought from Candidates.

Responsibilities

-Participating in tender bids as they arise.
-To review tender documentation and produce tender design deliverables , programme , required resources, and costs in line with company bid processes.
-To manage resources effectively and efficiently to meet fluctuating work loads.
-To develop relationships with other nation wide teams to utilise additional resources required.
-Work with Client & design team to assemble a design specification compliant with the -Employers requirements, agree its format and content, and monitor and review its preparation ensuring delivery by the due date.
-To work as a CEM on projects to ensure coordination of multi-disciplinary inputs.
-Carry out detailed design to relevant standards ensuring CDM, QA and technical review and sign off by project leader, including complex calculations and co-ordination issues.
-Review and monitor the production of calculations including QA, technical reviews and sign off.
-Ensure project team delivers the requisite information to assist with the preparation of the project budget and agree the budget with the design team.
-Carry out periodic review and identify risks affecting overall delivery.
-Co-ordinate and attend tender interviews.
-Identify the need for building and site surveys and their relevance to the project, and ensure that they are implemented in time to meet the requirements of the project.
-Manage and monitor site and buildings appraisals and carry out inspections where necessary.
-Agree fees and extras and maintain effective client communication.
-Follow in full the document control, archiving CDM and QA processes relevant to project work, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports and correspondence are issued, and filed in an appropriate manner.
-Lead the design process and encourage the rest of the team to deliver appropriate and cost effective solutions to the agreed programme; support those more inexperienced by technical review, mentoring and advice.

Training and Work Experience:

It is essential that the candidate:
-be a Chartered Engineer status with a BEng or MEng degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent.
-Have demonstrable experience of carrying out engineering design in the Rail environment.
-have a proven ability as a team leader and work with an engineering team.
