Electrical and Mechanical Shift Technician 
 
My client is a global leader within environmental solutions, they provide a comprehensive range of waste, water and energy management services designed to build the circular economy and preserve scarce raw materials.

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical and Mechanical Shift Technician to join my client’s busy and rapidly expanding team. This role will a be a staff role, based in the West Yorkshire region.

You will be working on an innovative energy facility which focussed on removing recyclable waste (through an automated mechanical pre-treatment process) from primarily municipal residual waste and recovering energy from the remaining element; enough to power in excess of 20,000 homes annually.


This role works on a rotating shift pattern that includes weekends and Public Holidays and is required to provide shift rota cover as required.

You will be reporting to the Maintenance Manager. You will be responsible for carrying out maintenance tasks, involving electrical and mechanical fault finding, defect rectification and routine maintenance activities, assistance with outage planning, preparation and execution. Additionally, to support the Maintenance Manager and Engineer to ensure maximum availability and performance of the energy facility, within approved budgets and through close liaison with operational staff.

Your principal responsibilities will be to (but not limited to):

** Carry out planned and breakdown maintenance on a variety of plant and apparatus including; over-head cranes, rotating equipment, 415V motors, variable speed drives, switch-gear
** To report, diagnose and remedy plant defects, proposing improvements where appropriate
** Propose and develop modifications to plant /apparatus as appropriate
** Liaise with operations staff and other maintenance staff as appropriate
** To supervise Company and Contractor staff as appropriate
** Maintain the workshop and other work areas in a clean, tidy and safe condition
** Work within the Company Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems
** Carry out fault diagnosis on emergent problems and where required effect immediate repairs
** Provide advice to the Maintenance engineer for forward planning
** Review the activities of third party contractors and suppliers and report any non-conformances
** Engage and use the computerised maintenance system to record all maintenance activities into the asset database, record spares and consumable usage
** Some manual handling necessary, working in confined spaces and working at height
** Able to be contacted, and attend site, outside of normal hours if required

Essential Skills:

** Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship - Qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline – Electrical / Mechanical
** Practical hands-on approach to be able to carry out duties in a modern recycling and energy recovery facility
** A recognised apprenticeship and will have detailed knowledge of all aspects of maintenance techniques
** Experience gained in a continuous process industry
** Understanding of, and ability to interface with, PLC’s
** Good communication with staff at all levels
** Computer literate and able to train in computerised maintenance system
** Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
** An effective team member, able to communicate well both verbally and in writing
