Overview of role

Global Platforms underpin many of our Global applications and as such the platform requires high availability, consistently high performance and effective monitoring. The platform is hosted across our global data centres however there are few global standards in place. The estate requires some redesign to in order to optimise, standardise and simplify both the technology and operational processes to facilitate a move towards automation and customer focused self-service model. We utilise Windows server, Unix/Linux hosted on VMWare and Cloud (Azure, AWS). We are currently building our user service products and automation platform by embracing automation, robotics, machine learning and ChatOps. This role will work very closely with the other platform leads and engineers across the Wintel, Unix, Database, Storage and Cloud functions to develop highly decoupled Schroders hybrid cloud platforms to support the business growth.

This role has been created as part of the globalisation of the infrastructure and technologies team. This role will build, design, test and deliver the strategy provided by the technical authority for this vertical. The platform engineer will be responsible for design and building Schroders internal cloud solutions to help organization scale globally; develop and build highly integrated self-service to users;

Key duties

  • Work closely with the global leads to deliver strategic goals.
  • Design, build and test integrated platform/infrastructure as services
  • Design, build and test internal tools and software components for global platform services rollout.
  • Work closely with the support functions, the Storage and Unix engineers and also the DBAs to ensure all designs & deployments are globally consistent, scalable and supportable.
  • Establish, document and implement global standards for hardware by software implementation
  • Build a platform, capable of abstraction complexity from users and automate the manual process by thinking creatively.
