Technical Architect – Infrastructure/DevOps - Derby
Technical Architect required for a growing organisation based in Derby, near to the train station, where you will play a key part in owning and driving the infrastructure architecture for the organisation, ensuring it’s fit for purpose for today and the future. You will contribute to the development of architectural principles and design best practice.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in hands-on architect roles (solution/technical) specifically within the infrastructure architecture functions. You will have experience of on-premise, cloud and hybrid infrastructure architecture functions.
Key Responsibilities of the role
- Own and drive the infrastructure architecture for the organisation ensuring it’s fit for purpose for today and the future
- Contribute to the development of architectural principles and design best practice
- Delivery of hosting and infrastructure strategies for core products including TCO
- Provide architectural support to bid estimation
- Contribute to project and product architectural decision making and artefacts
- Ensure project delivery complies with architectural best practice, strategy and principles, else highlight the impact of any deviations
- Develop and maintain up to date views of product technical architecture
- Determine and communicate the technical maturity and risk profile of our product set including security, resilience and supportability
- Drive the continued maturity of our product set via existing projects or standalone initiatives
- Where necessary, build business cases for new technology implementation
- Drive the continued improvement of our architecture capability both internally and through the use of carefully selected partners
- Support innovation and advise on the relative merits of new technologies
Key Skills of the role
- Experience in hands-on architect roles (solution/ technical) specifically within the infrastructure architecture functions
- Experience of on premise, cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments
- Leading/ managing small architecture and infrastructure teams
- In-depth experience of designing and implementing infrastructure services
Experience providing architectural services in:
o waterfall and agile delivery environments
o mixed hosting environments (on premise, private DC, cloud)
o distributed hosting environments
o Microservice oriented and containerised platforms
- Active involvement in delivering & improving CI/CD DevOps setups
Broad technical base to include a strong understanding of:
o Queuing technologies (e.g. MQTT)
o High volume messaging and data streaming
o Integration methodologies
o NOSQL and mixed DB environments
o Multiple OS environments
o Public cloud environments
o Infrastructure as code
- Deep understanding of Network Architecture (protocols, architectures, topologies) including MPLS / VPN / Proxy / Wi-Fi technologies
- Deep knowledge of infrastructure Security best practices including Firewalling, Web Application Firewalling, Load Balancing, SSL Inspection
- Experience migrating production workloads to public cloud platforms
- Providing assurance around third-party solutions and COTS infrastructure
Salary
The salary for this position is flexible between £75,000 - £85,000 per annum, plus excellent benefits and fantastic company culture. There may be higher salary on offer, for the right candidate.
