Sourcing consists of Business Unit focussed teams, global category teams as well as Sourcing operations and centres of excellence. Our main roles are to:

  • Find, evaluate and negotiate contracts with suppliers from which the business -procure the goods and services they need
  • Plan and execute strategic sourcing activity that delivers sustainable cost reductions and innovative solutions
  • Provide systems, processes, governance and MI to support compliant purchasing and a cost-conscious culture
  • Effectively manage supplier performance and risk, unlocking supplier-led incremental value

 

Overall purpose of role

 

This is a role within a business unit Souring Team where the role holder will be supporting the delivery of procurement related activities for a business unit (BU) covering a large annual spend/budget.

 

The role holder shall assist their line manager to deliver the Sourcing agenda within their BU.

Working under direction from line management and cross function teams to support the BUK Sourcing team in management of key stakeholders or business areas and leading on selected Sourcing deals across a range of categories. The role will include supporting with the performance management of the team and execution of and responsibility for delivery of key team initiatives.

 Barclays is a very fast paced, dynamic and highly motivated organisation, for this reason the customer base is very demanding so the role must be held by someone who is able to deal with pressure and work at pace. Quick turn-around time of projects and ability to multi-task is of utmost importance.

 Key Accountabilities

 

  • Leveraging relationships with stakeholders in their BU
  • Operating as a ‘trusted commercial advisor’ for their BU or area (whether supplier related or not)
  • Supporting their line manager to influence the commercial agenda within their BU in relation to ‘make versus buy’ decisions and providing procurement advice
  • Raising the profile and selling the benefits of effective procurement processes and the Sourcing capability within the BU
  • Proactively seek savings & efficiency opportunities
  • Working collaboratively in the team and within agreed engagement models between Sourcing and the BU to deliver Sourcing & BU agendas
  • Qualifying opportunities, interpreting needs to execute initiatives to improve the cost, income,  

 Decision-making and Problem Solving

 

  • Ensuring a rigorous analytical approach to Sourcing spend, projects and management information, displaying best practice in cost modelling and technical competencies related to assessment of spend, suppliers and Sourcing data.
  • Focus on total acquisition costs including activity based review and understanding suppliers’ ‘cost drivers’
  • Prioritising workloads

Person Specification

 

  • We require individuals with expertise in data and analytics with experience in working in a Sourcing function
  • Tenacious and enthusiastic individual willing to take initiative and ‘own’ problems
  • Strong commercial background, including a solid understanding of the sourcing process, in order to support alignment of business strategy and realistic sourcing goals
  • Proven process and project management skills, which demonstrate ability to identify and manage interdependent activities, always meeting the requirements of stakeholders
  • Detailed knowledge of appropriate commercial models and approaches/techniques necessary to achieve best in class deals
  • Ability to develop innovative sourcing strategies to maximise value-add for Barclays and implement best in class deals
  • Analytical and financial understanding of service cost models and lifetime acquisition costs, in order to support negotiations and in-source/out-source decisions
  • Excellent contract negotiation skills in order to tackle escalated issues with key suppliers and develop win-win situations
